  • haha, bower lane is like a mere speed bump compared to exedown hill later on.

ah, sorry to hear that tika. don't work too hard.

STE5/sean - cheers for tidying that up dude.

  • oh dear oh dear, no laughing if i grind to a halt and topple then...

  • don't worry dude, was exaggerating a bit. besides, my laughter will be reserved for watching sam coming over the crest on those tiny wheels. gonna look awesome.

  • I'm leaving Shanklin now, so I should be at St Mary Cray within 3 & 1/2hrs (I'm on a 69.6" gear, so will easily average 30mph). I'll do 2 extra ascents of Exedown whilst you lot plod up.

  • only two extra bmmf? slack.

  • 84" of grinding pain and suffering. Expect a scream of determination with every plodding uphill pedalstroke. I'll be gone on the downhills though...

  • 84"? Good luck on Exedown Hill with that. I'll bring replacement knee joints as you're going to need them.

  • I was thinking cleat covers for walking, or maybe a bike with gears. Either that or a look of smug satisfaction if it's nowhere near as bad as it sounds. Yeah, probably won't need that last option.

  • I think it's the toughest single ascent we do on any of the TNRC routes. The Surrey Hills ride is tougher but that's cumulative, Exedown Hill had me cursing as I ground up it on a 66" gear back in May.

i have to concur with this. i have to.

  • Consider me scared. Night time adventure will add charm to the suffering, and as long as i drop back nobody will see me scampering up the hill pushing the bike...

  • I reckon I could grind up it in 84", but it'd be slow progress. I'm not much of a climber though :/

  • a small group this evening. could mean that we're more prone to attacks from bears. hmmm...especially if climbing slowly...

  • @Texas - bears will pick off the slowest first so I reckon Sam and 6PT will be caught before you or I. Hopefully that'll sate their hunger.

Take cliveo with you - he's both slow and will feed a whole bear family for a good week. (Sorry if you're reading Mr O.)

Hang on a second, Exedown isn't til just past half way, with any luck they'll be sated long before I become a target.
Failing that, there's nothing like an angry hairy beast chasing you down to get you moving a little bit faster...

  • i'm out. knee's still hurting and i have to work late. sorry guys.

  • the trick is to put yourself in the middle of the peleton... going off the front could be a problem as well.!

I was going to ride over earlier to give it a crack, but I couldn't be arsed.

Bottle cage now fitted, cut down innertubes TNRC style FTW!

I will take Clives place as ransom for the TNRC, those sausages have been too good to resist and I expect to be rougeing it at the back...

  • sorry to hear that teddy, i hope it wasn't the talk of bears that brought on that knee pain.

i think it is gonna be a real laugh tonight. and i am hoping just a bit scary too. bring it on.

  • have a good ride!

  • loving Sam and his tube work. That's TNRC right there! Sad to miss this ride but Albion were nothing short of brilliant tonight. Not heard anything from you lot so either sam is still out there or you are all bear meat.

  • tim, you missed a cracker dude. a good strong quartet led out by Sam on his small wheeled machine. quite a flyer really and very little waiting for Sam who actually still led most of the ride and turned up only five mins behind us at the end.

two strong debuts in STE5 and 6PT, sean and tom. sean almost took the stage win but i think andyp pipped it. the usual great ascending from purple mj; tom_saracen always piling on hard in the drops; texas looking very good for the Catford Hill Climb, just trying to get the balance right before tapering off; and like i said, epic stuff from sam.

a lovely night weather wise and we are back at st mary cray before 10:00 so you can work out from that there was no fucking about.

cheers for coming out all, and for those that couldn't make it, you missed a good one.

though on the plus side you missed the bitch that is Exedown Hill. bright times on a dark night.
