You can pick up a hard copy of Fixed from a bike shop for free, by the way!
The story's about a road trip to the Bright Tradeshow

went into 14 the other day. I have a fair amount of cash to spend on a frame and forks.
really disappointed with the service. i felt like i was just going through a process to choose the colours i wanted the frame as opposed to being given an actual run down of my different options, i wasnt expecting every different combination of steel and lug to be available but a little guidance would have been nice, seeing as thats why i went in there. To be honest i felt like the person i dealt with would rather have been doing something else. pretty shit when about to lay down the best part of a grand on a bike which is supposedly custom fitted to yourself. Was more than prepared to put the deposit down there and then but they scuppered their chances of that pretty quickly.

Maybe they were in shock?

Why should he? is not like the market is not flooded with frame builders. There are plenty of other places anyone can go. Getting a custom size frame should be The experience, after all 14bike co charges way to much for frames. you would at least expect a good service.
don't give then the satisfaction.

if you've got £1k to spend on a frame I'd be goign to cyclefit or bikewhispererererer

They don't charge too much for frames, and they aren't cunts like you're making out. They are just a fuckin bike shop.
It is a fact that you will get a good product from 14 bike co, so if you want a bike from them and get bad service, go back another time and deal with a different member of staff.
This is how I'd deal with it. I'm not gonna 'take my business elsewhere' just because one member of staff may have been having a bad day. Why complain when you can HTFU and get on with it?

I went in there the other day for some bread and the rude bastard behind the counter said they were a bike shop and don't sell bread, what the fuck is all that about?!, my lbs was shut by the time I got there as well so I had to have toast made from frozen bread. It's not the same though is it. Shower o' bastards.

Im not making out they are cunts mate, im saying that i took the time and effort to come down from nottingham to the shop to get measured up for a frame and felt like the service was substandard. i work in sales, i know how to deliver decent customer service and i dont feel like i got that.
Im not whinging, i was just sharing my experience. I have popped in in the past and spoken to people and they have been sound, it just seemed a bit of a shame that i got better customer service buying a pair of toe clips than i did getting measured up for a custom built bicycle.Anyway big man, maybe you are used to having shit customer service because you're a dick.

I never been there. It sounds and it promotes the image of a bike boutique with pretentious young cyclists. Never had a good experience in such shops. If anyone has a bad experience they should take their business elsewhere, especially when frames are priced more than twice their value. They are well to expensive, there is no point in denying that! Its steel for Christ sake, with a stupid brand!
btw, do you work there maxcrowe?

Ridiculous, Max. Why should the customer have to make allowances for some member of staff having a bad day? In a low volume/high price/low margin business, retailers should treat the customers like the 2nd coming.
But what the fuck do I know? I don't run a bike shop.

If going for a custom frame, get fitted properly and have an idea of what you need first through the Whisperer...
Or alternatively everything in life can be corrected with risers.

Pretty much what fixed gear is all about at the moment. Just a niche fashionable market full of elitists.

I had excellent service there. I had 3 of the guys helping me; John, TDV Keith (who did a thorough fitting) and another guy (i think from fixed gear London).
Maybe it depends what day you go.
Was going to buy from Cavendish but was unimpressed by them. Checked out 14, they treated me very well so I spent my money there.
That was my experience. Just saying, like.
Stunning flickr site.
I really want to mess around with a lubitel now.
