i bought a set of bar tape that came with some gelpads, i fail at remembering the make, but it was a very soft and almost fluffy tape. the pads cost almost the same alone so it was a good deal in evans at ldn bridge as i recall.
i use much tougher tape now, but i still use the pads underneath as i love to have a bit of a fat hanldebar to hold on to rather then a tiny stick.
another thing, as i use low risers with tape, i found the tape to move outwards and slip off at the end due to the gelly, ever so gentle movement the pads allow. (highgate hill does that to you, as does bitchling beacon) fixing the pads with a bit of electro tape and the use double sided sticky tape underneath the bartape keeps everything nicce and tight for ages.
