  • That's very much closer to what I'd like but I don't want to buy a built over-priced Pashley and you can't buy F+F on their own I think... Maybe hunting around for an old frame is the the best option... I really don't know...

i've quite a bit of experience with this.

You have flexibility with the frame and tires, and you can basically use anything you want. i get away very well with running fat tires (32mm) and an overbuilt touring fork on my 700c frame. It happens to be an IRO Mark V, but any bike on the stronger, less fancy end of the spectrum would work. I mean it. Anything.

as for the rack, I've used mostly Wald racks, and i'm NOT happy with them. They have a half life of about 6 months of hard use. They are nice because they put all the load directly on the wheel axle and not the frame, but they just don't last and they make a racket when riding over any kind of bump(s). Not pleased.

if i were to start over, which i think i will this winter, I would try a frame mounted rack, such as THIS ONE. Scroll down to the "Frame fixing front rack". I am concerned about loading my frame in that way, but honestly, it's likely going to be just fine. My fork can certainly handle it, being a touring fork. As a case in the point of using literally any frame, look at the photos on that page.

Thats my input. Any frame, strong fork, fat tires, frame mounted rack.
