  • Are there many JB addicts here? It always amazes me how unknown he is.

Stumbled across some videos... holy fuck his music gives me goosebumps.
He had the most beautiful, haunting voice I've ever heard.

Please watch, especially if you don't already know of him! :)

    RIP, Jeff

  • not a patch on his old man though IMHO

  • not a patch on his old man though IMHO

Ah, they're both fantastic. Buzzin' Fly is one of my desert island discs.

    Lived longer though! Ha.

dream letter live in london is a superb (double) album

  • He is a rather amazing fellow, I listen to live at Sin-e a lot.

    Shame he can't swim really.

  • absolutely love JB.

  • I got a bit obsessive about the cult of Buckers at uni. I sort of burned out on it after a while i'm afraid. Just killed it with overplay I think. He did have an amazing voice but I think he lacked songs and often veered into self indulgance. I never bought his "hard rocker" act either. I think he was at his best as melodramatic crooner. There are moments on Grace, Sin é, and Sweetheart the Drunk that still blow me away but I don't listen much these days. I think it reminds me of a time when I was a melodramatic and annoying teenager burning candles and getting all sesnitive and profound to the sound of hallelujah or Lover you should have come over... damn i was cheesy at that age.

I may have mentioned this on here before but The images of Jeff at Sin é were a big part of my choosing my white Telecaster when I moved back to London in 2001. A few years later I was playing a gig at a party on a boat in Chelsea and Gary Lucas (ex Magic Band and Buckley band mate, co-wrote Mojo Pin, Grace etc) was there and asked to get up and play with us. He played Grace on my guitar and then we jammed for a bit. He's a great guitarist but a bit of a cock. He was walking round this party going "Yeah that's my song. You know that Jeff Buckley song? Grace? I wrote that" Haha.

I don't think his looks hurt his appeal or legacy either. Handsome boy.

  • Long term Jeff fan over here, Live at Sin-e is one of my favourite albums of all time.

Vancouver, Everybody here wants you, his cover of Dinks song and the accoustic Last Goodbye are my top tracks.

  • Wrong place to mention Jeff Buckleys other half? Joan Wasser or Joan As Policewoman if we're going for stage names here...
I maintain that Real Life is one of the loveliest albums of the past five years.

  • Nothing wrong with Jeff Buckley that sticking on some Nick Drake won't cure....

  • i like Nick Drake (i've got the Nick Drake songbook permanetly perched on a music stand in my living room - not to play you understand but just to give the place a more authentic air of sensitive middle class culturedness) but I've never been all that mad about him. I can take a song or two but after a while I start to wish he'd man-up just a bit. Again I absolutely love isolated songs but i find he's just a bit too drippy for prolonged consumption.

Real Life is a good album.

True dat. Although fair play to him for his Qawali attempt in Live at Sin-e, considering he was singing in Punjabi too. It surprised the hell out of me when I first heard it. Completely unexpected.

  • Similar story to Dooks here. I was utterly obsessed with him at uni (and I too obtained a white tele for this reason)... with the added bonus of my entire group of friends sharing the obsession. This led to more than one instance of eight or nine girls and boys drunkenly singing through the whole of Grace (except Hallelujah) note-for-out-of-tune-note in the early hours of a Leeds morning.

I still live with four of that group and the album is now banned in our house, althought I'm not quite sure if it is out of a similar embarrassment to Dooks (the sing-a-longs were often accompanied by candles and melodrama too...) or a more upsetting and unspoken nostalgia.

That said, I can only echo the praise for Live at Sin-e. One of the greatest live albums ever made...

  • A friend (who i used to lust over majorly) and fellow Jeff enthusiast, once made me a birthday card which had hand sown stars on it and the words "You left some stars in my belly" on it. The thought still makes me feel hopelessly soppy / teenagery [sic] 5 years down the line.

Hahaha! brilliant. This really made me laugh (and wince a little too).

@M8!- Yep that's true too. The little spiel he does about Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is pretty funny too. Made me go out and buy "A Beginners Guide to Nusrat..." too so I've got that to thank him for.

  • There's a time and place for Jeff... Most of his songs are absolute genius don't get me wrong but depresses the fuck out of me.

  • Good depression tho´.

  • nothing wrong with the Buckleys, but there's a lot wrong with the hordes of soulless little wingers that claim to be "influenced" by them.

  • Can totally understand the overplay, also agree with the depressing thing, so although I will admit a minor obsession, I don't listen to him that often, so am not sick of him :)
    Harrah!

Not a huge fan of Tim though. I've tried, but his music just doesn't seem that exciting to me.
Do you need to be high when listening to him, is that it?

  • Warning: Second thread derailment by same poster about Joan As Policewoman:

You can download a free single to promote To Survive by Joan As Policewoman called "Start of My Heart" right here. It's bloody lovely.

  • Nothing wrong with Jeff Buckley that sticking on some Nick Drake won't cure....

    +1.

  • I used to adore Jeff Buckley, and then something killed the whole of his best album, Grace.
