I don't think I have the patience to talk to it - we'd probably just end up having a blazing row, and then it'd never open. And I've spent far too much time crouching on the ground beside my bike, fruitlessly twiddling the key. I actually have two blisters on my index finger.
Anyway, Texas is coming round with his bolt cutters later. Hurrah!

I once had the same thing happen with my old Abus lock. Happily it was freelocked, so I put the whole thing in a cab, drove back to the shop the lock came from, and let them work it out. And made them pay for my cab ride.
Hope you get yours back with the bolt cutters. We love Texas (not often I get to say that in any other context) Nhatt seems to have left some pedals and a wrench in my kitchen which are apparently connected to the bike lending process..Ill make sure she gets them back.

Hurrah! The bike is free! Though it was rather unnerving to see how quickly Texas got through the lock with his bolt cutters. I'm just going to reassure myself that he's a strapping young man, and that weedy little hoodies with similar implements would take far longer.
And yes, I'll be taking the lock back to Condor. Not sure how amenable they'll be, given that this is the second time this has happened this year, but it's worth a try.
Can anyone suggest any good alternatives? Wearing a chain lock around my waist has been such an intrinsic part of my routine for so long - it's going to be quite difficult to change. I've been carrying a D-lock in my bag today and yesterday, and it's nowhere near as graceful or convenient.

you could use d lock and in back pocket or belt or fabric horse.

There is really only two options for couriers to be honest, d-lock in the pocket or something around the waist.
Ali (creative) has a pretty cool set up of a chain and padlock, she uses a bike chain loop around the link in the lock that's most comfortable for her and the shackle of the lock goes through that part. Selim uses a simular system but he got a long shackle lock from the states to make it stay on him when he's riding. -

I really don't like wearing locks on my body, my housemate does it all the time with a huge abus chain and it really worries me. It's an old motorbiking paranoia I guess, but if you get hit at speed and land on a disc-lock or something on your chest, it's going to snap all your ribs in. I guess a chain around the waist is in a less bony/fragile place, but I still wouldn't like to add chain links to a taxi bumper if something is going to be ramming into my stomach.
in the bag for the win. I know it's not the fastest or most convenient for couriers, but it's sure as hell the safest.

Why don't people use lock holders on their bike frame?
I've used one on my hack bike for 19 years and never had any issues.
Then again, it doesn't look right on some bikes ...

+1 for frame brackets and never carrying chain on body. I broke two ribs landing on a chain and padlock, couldn't lie on my side for a month, hurt like a bastard. Kryptonite evo is rattling like a mofo in the frame bracket, might have to try taping the prongy end bits (shackle? Terminology fail)
what?
