When my dad and I were cycling to Glasgow a few years back someone chucked a banana skin at him and started making monkey noises and shouting the typical racist nonsense. The people in the car couldn't have seen the queue at the traffic lights 30 metres ahead. As my dad I approached a few seconds later they -in what must have been blind panic-pulled out to make an escape only to be hit side on by an oncoming van. Thankfully no one was hurt and once the police arrived the driver was arrested.

I've worked in the "grim" end of Hoxton for nearly 15 years without a single incident. I'm not a "Nathan Barley" on a hipster wagon but even if I were, I don't think that merits being deliberately fucked over by a pair of 16 or 17 year old ragamuffin scrotes. I'm not about to buy a hoodie, get cornrows and wear my jeans falling off my arsecheeks so I can blend in with two cowardly scumbags. For the record there are plenty of decent people in this area who have fuck all money. It comes down to common sense and respect for other people on this planet.

In an ideal world yes it should. but Jim has a point, there is a chance that car drove past a good few cyclists before slapping the OP and probably a good few after. it wasn't completely random.
I have had more stick in lycra than in my jeans, the skinny jean hipster sorts do stand out. the very reason they get dressed up and spend the money on load and highly noticable bikes ... is to stand out from the crown.. to make a statement. changes are they will standout to people who want to compliment them as much as people who want to slap them.

Before I opened this thread. I knew it was going to have happened around Essex Road / New North Road area. These little cock suckers used to try and terrorise me almost daily on my way home from work when I lived round there. So many little pricks around that area.

I had a guy honk whille being right next to me in Oslo! He had enough space, but I guess he thought it was funny cause he laughed right after..he didn't laugh though when it freaked me out and I slammed into the side of his shiny car.. risers with no grips do wonders on cars, nice and big scratch and a nice dent from my thigh on his front door..
Luckily I wasn't going too fast so I didn't get hurt when I fell off the bike.. he got out screaming at me that I fucked up his car but I got some help from a bypassing guy who was pretty big, so the dude got into his car and left..

This is why I carry my abus chain lock over my shoulder rather than in my bag - anytime i see any dodgy looking kids loitering by the side of the road i calmly take it off my shoulder and let the weighty lock dangle from my hand as i cycle past. It's enough of a deterrent and does a fair bit of damage if you do ever have to use it on would-be theives

just got stoned again. this time campbell road e3. kids this time. i stopped and told them off. but they were behind a security gate and they scarpered. i hope this is not a trend.

so i stopped on chrisp street market for a curry and a cuppat with one sugar. and that cheered me up.
