and one of these:

I've also had similar sized Tesco torches for £10 which also fit this mount. They are equally as bright but I found didn't have enough spread (i.e. the beam wasn't wide enough). Good for a helmet light, but not for the bars. Fenix good for either. Get some decent rechargable batteries, you'll get about 2 hours light from a single charge.

LFGSS is not the be-all-and-end-all of my life.....I don't care if new users don't search and start new threads, it's really not important, why do you care so much?
If old timers can start dumb threads why not new users?
a new user (possibly new cyclist) buys bike, needs info, joins forum, asks question, get's flamed....it's sad..... just be nice, answer their question and welcome them to this entertaining forum thing....
As a relative noob it is easier to find information on things if it is all in the same thread. The less threads I have to read through whilst searching the better.
No objection to new threads, but it does make things easier.

What I don't understand is why you would have any issues at all, the UTFS crusade is possibly the most pointless of all time...OF ALL TIME!
Surely you mean OAT !
I agree with your point about the whole UTFS thing, never used it myself, like I have said before it (telling new members to UTFS) just turns this place into a library rather than a community.

I got a hope on the front, has three power settings (plus a flash mode) it takes 4 AA's they will last 4-6 hours and the throw is amazing.
I love it for the following reasons- Takes normal/rechargeable batteries
- Has a mounting that can go on any bike in seconds
- Water proof and simple to swap out batteries
for the cost it rocks – but it is a pain to carry about.
- Water proof and simple to swap out batteries
The rear I use a couple of smart lunar half watts - Waist and bag. The flash sequence gets you noticed and they last for time.. Except when they keep turning themselves on! kills batteries but that’s why i have two + a couple knoggs.. back up innit
you got enough for an informed decision young un?

UTFS tax!
0.5 of a LFGSS dolla for every UTFS posted, this time next year will be millionaires -

Libraries are parts of communities, they're not alternatives to communities.

550£ for a light?? Who in their right mind would buy such a light? And then you need one for the back as well.. Lance Armstrong while being sponsored by Donald Trump??
Seriously though, the review says "for the hardcore serious offroad biker" or something.. well, I'd run in front of that serious biker with a torch in each hand for 550£..
But anyway, I was on the on-one site the other day and they had some sale on a couple of lights, some even anodised!

Hey, here's a man telling me what to do with my time, just what I need. We can agree to differ on whether we try to encourage use of the search function, but kindly get out of my face with your advice on how I should spend my time.
"Just do something different with your time" = suggestion.
Hold on. I don't think I flamed him at all; I suggested that getting arsey, saying something like "History is boring" or whatever wasn't the best way to get people to help him. As Hippy points out if every time someone wants to know about lights they start a thread because they can't be bothered to do any research then the next person who wants to know about lights has a much harder time if they do do research because there are so many duplicate threads to read through. That is the point of trying to discourage people from starting new threads on old topics.
There may well have been plenty to say and new stuff to learn but it could have been tacked on to the end of an existing thread where it would be easier for the next person to find. I think Velocio should merge these threads though it's not really fair that he has to do extra work because someone has been to lazy to UTS. Trying to get people to use an ever growing forum in the most efficient way is not whining.
And you can't complain that some members are instructing other members how to behave when that is exactly what you are doing yourself.Far too much discussion on this already for me, and you appear to have missed the bracketed disclaimer!
distilled: people are being unnecessarily rude to new members and getting overly upset about their perceived version of how the forum should operate.....
this is my perception and my opinion only, Personally I don't understand the animosity or what drives people to write 211 words on the subject....where's that field?

Festus you have lost yourself there. I was laughing at the phrase, "burning peasants".
I made NO comment at all, and gave NO opinion at all on what newbies should do or not do.Apparently the giant Galapagos tortoise is most vulnerable when its neck is at its most extended.
It should therefore....wind its neck in.EDIT:
As for Beth Ditto - I've never heard of the bloke. Could be safely locked away somwhere, for the betterment of mankind. Good job too.Sorry, that was for Winston
-

@Winston: what Will and Hippy said.
To me there's a big big difference between suggesting/telling someone to use the search and hardcore flamming/bullying. To respond the way said OP is what's poor.

I'd agree with that, and UTFS doesn't help matters (unless it's a repost)
But i can't abide laziness - "what fixie bike should i buy", "what wheels for this" etc
the least you do is get half an idea then focus your questione.g (and i am not picking on the OP - just giving examples)
Hey, don't want to spend too much but I'm looking for some badass lights to ride my bicycle with. Those MonkeyLectric lights look pretty dope but they're like £50... anyone got them? They'd be good as a joke / real fun. Might purchase the Knog Skink for the bum and some other rip-off (is it?) Knog one for the front.
i read "i am too lazy to research but i want something that looks nice" plus some yoot words for streetness. What's you budget?
What reliability do you need? Short commute or serious night rides etc
Are they for one/many bikes? - fittings etc
Prefer rechargable units/battery power units? - usage etcBasically what do you want\not want in a bike light - you read back through and you have dozens of personal recommendations for various reasons. i'll wage a tenner he buys the ones that look pretty.
IMO

There's been no animosity or unnecessary rudeness that I can see. Joseph, do you feel ill-used?

you guys can stamp your feet all you want about new people coming on and posting stupid/obvious shit, but it won't change anything. Next week there will be another 20 new people who don't read the classified section rules or start another "make my decisions for me" thread that they could have found the answer to if they used the search.
There's definitely a real culture of "you're new, what the fuck do you know?" or "listen to your elders" here which is kind of stupid as this discrimination is rarely knowledge based - more often its just bitching about forum etiquette or fighting change. I know lots of people here care about the forum, but at the end of the day it's just a forum.
They'll just keep coming so why get your knickers all twisted over it every day/week? Just don't read those threads.
At least this guy is kind of funny, not like some of the others...

Yawning aside, my Mini Newt works well for me...
http://www.niterider.com/prod_minmini.shtml
They don't flash, but do really give off a powerful, long beam. USB rechargeable so great for commuting, and as it's a velcro/rubber mount, there's no permanent fixing on your bars...
£100 though...(i got discount)
