thanks a lot mate, thats the answer i was hoping for!
the advanced crankset/ring + miche BB is comming to £115 cringe
but i would end up having to spend 60-70 odd if i replaced everything with stock items (fsa veros, cheapie bb) - so may aswell bung the rest and get an upgrade - i guess!
riding fixed is not so smooth and zen-like with a chainring the shape of pringle!
cheers

I am not 100% sure but i think that shimy un 54 107mm will work well with fuji track stock chainset. that could be much cheaper option that the whole upgrade.

then you can just replace the work chainring
-

hi mate, not quite sure what you mean?
if i use a new chainring on my fsa cranks, it will make the chain sit 3-4mm futhur out from the centre of the bike...
to compensate this, i would have to have a narrower bottom bracket - and i was under the impression that the standard fuji BB was 103mm?
(unless its actually 110mm?, and then yeah - changing to a 107mm JIS sq taper, Should bring a replacement chainring back into line)

SHimy 107 is jis which will bring the cranks to correct position as the priginal one was 103mm iso. If ou go for that shimy 107mm then you could still continue using the original cranks and the new chainring. That's what i was thinking. I tried all that on a sugino mesenger chainset which comeswith the same crapy fsa 103mm bb in a tricross.

I have the same problem :
I'm 172 cm tall with around 80cm inseam
and which size frame for me:
surly steam roller
condror pista
fuji trackI've been told that perfect for me is around 53cm top tube
Is that true? -
• #1608
You'll never know until you try them.
-
• #1609
i'm 168 cm. i loom over the 52. the 54 seems about the right size.my current bike, the raleigh blue bastard, is probably 56cm and scrapes my nuts when i stand over it.
-

I'm 6 foot 3 with 33 inch inside leg and ride the 58cm, though I reckon I could manage on the 56cm too.
-
• #1611
188cm and I ride the (equivalent to) Fuji track 58cm.
Although I test rode the 61cm and it felt pretty good.

Am approx 180cm and ride 56cm fuji track. Seems about right for me!
-
• #1613
im 6'4'' and the 58 is fine for me, but i have short legs. :(

What is the maximum tyre width I can get away with on my '08 Fuji Track? The chainstay looks like it has been manipulated to take fairly wide rubber, but it would be good to know what works before I order anything.
Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere - I did a search but couldn't find anything...

i've got a 28 on the back of mine but there is still a fair amount of clearance left so i reckon a 32 is possible
-
• #1616
..but if you want to use a flip-flop hub and the full length of the dropouts then I'd go for a 25.
-
• #1617
I may order a 32c and see what happens. So if a 32c tyre appears on the classifieds...
-
• #1618
why would you want a 32?
-
• #1621
Anyone know if there is any difference in the frame between the 08 and 09?
-
• #1622
I've just moved here and have left my fixie at home- believing that it would be cheaper and easier to buy one over here. I want one asap and haven't seen anything particularly good on ebay. So far, the fuji track is looking like a winner, however it is very cheap. Has anyone had experience with these bikes? are they good value or just a heap of junk?
I'm also considering a Surly Steamroller- however I'm worried that the better bike might be more of a target for thieves. (Then again I suppose any bike is a target for thieves). -

fuji track bikes are good. not great unless they are the comp grade machined frames. fuji in general is good. dont hesitate to get one if the price is right. personally though i wouldnt spend money on carbon/aluminum...i love old steel hand made cycles...carbon wont last in urban environments and aluminum lends to not last either...also theives love carbon in nyc so id assume the same goes for london, paris, tokyo...etc.

I would get a Steamroller over a Fuji Track, but if it's just a temporary bike whilst you're on holiday/business/out of the country or whatever then it shouldn't matter.
The Fuji Track is a decent quality OTP as is the Steamroller which has a very highly regarded frameset.
My 2p.

Fuji Tracks are steel.
If you get (for example) Miche Primato cranks with the Miche bottom bracket then it will all go onto the bike fine and will give a decent 42mm chainline.
The Miche bottom bracket allows some fine tuning as neither of the cups has a lip to prevent it being screwed further into the frame, the only thing to look out for is that they sometimes unscrew themselves- although I think this is usually only on Italian threaded versions.
I would recommend using some plumbers tape to secure the cups of the bottom bracket anyway for peace of mind if nothing else.
So- remove current cranks and BB, chuck them in the bin, stick new Miche (or whatever) on, job's a good'un.
