  • What is the cheapest and is it ok?

  • 89p and no.

  • Ask Sam.

  • Depends if you're taking it out to dinner or just drinks. The M type can't hold it's booze but will always order the steak. The P type is a vegetarian but loves the double tequila's and will drink you under the table. The S type has got some pretty fancy tastes but I hear will put out on a first date.

More seriously, Bromptons are all fairly well built. It being OK is dependant on what you want to use it for.

  • ask veLLo

  • I desperately need to borrow one of these for a couple of weeks ... Loic?! Fancy renting me yours?

  • @skully - Furious Tiles is your man now.

  • Why? How? Uh?

  • Via his new job. Speak to the man.

  • Meh. A Bromptonenger caused my shoulder fracture. Stupid noddy bikes (no offence, like).

  • There are some really good brompton riders eg our own Sam or the competitors at the nocturne folding bike races.

Like anything get the brompton that fits your purpose.

  • i haz a brompton S2.

it has its purposes, but it doesn't replace a proper bike (or two). they are well built though. cost about £630.

  • I'd quite like one to use when I have to get the train or drive to a meeting somewhere.

Keeping one in the boot would be pretty handy in general- however they are a bit too expensive to get for just the odd trip.

Hmm, I wish eBay was not blocked at work or I'd have a look at second hand values.

  • Not cheap on ebay as they hold there price secondhand and not too many for sale.

I think I would get one especially if it was through the C2W scheme.

  • I can get ayou a second hand one for £300, black, good condition etc...

  • Bromptons retain their value really well. Well they used to a couple of years ago anyhow.

    Hi Ben,

We just need to check on a calendar if I am not going to France during these weeks (in which case I would need it), but otherwise no problem...
I don't know about "renting", I think a pint would be enough, or maybe an engraving of my name on one of my brooks would please me a lot!... I think my brompton would be in good hands with you, when I see the state of your bikes!

    Let me know

  • ... but regarding Bromptons in general, my opinion is that they are fantastic bikes...
You will find some people to say Dahon are faster, Birdy are like that, bla bla...
I don't need a folding bike to be super fast, otherwise I might as well get on my racing bike, as when I am in the situation of needing my Brompton, it's often because my commuting is not purely on the bike (I take the train, or meet someone with a car) so O/A, it won't be a fast journey anyway... It has a very specific purpose, and fills it perfectly...
Saying that Bromptons are reasonnably fast, it has style (as opposed to other folding, who often look like war machines or nerdy objects), and the fact they are loads of them internationaly, for a product that has not change a lot thru the years, makes any part available, any bolt, any spindle... It's virtually eternal... I don't know about its competitors... and they are built in UK... they have a bit of that 531 awesome, isn't it?

  • +1 (to veLLo's comments) I think they rock. I really do.

  • True, you do have to admire them from an engineering point of view.

  • it's a bit like riding brakeless sometimes, though.

  • Shitty shit. I was about to chip in with a few second-hand factlets about Brompton design I got from Rob Brock, a guy i used to know pretty well though the early days of the london pedicabs. He designed and built the recumbant quads we used to use (had him on speed dial for roadside emergencies). Haven't spoken to him in years though so I just googled him to check my sources on the Bromptons (he loved them too) and found out he died earlier this year. Damn...

  • I love my brompton too, amazing bikes. There also very useful for lending to people as one size pretty much fits anyone unlike the rest of my 62cm bikes. I work next to their factory, always meant to go in to see if they would show me about.

  • I work next to their factory.

Whats the security like at the factory?
