Spotted...

Spotted dude on a brakless copy of Hoops army bike with wide black bars going South on Tower Bridge this evening, flat cap - didnt look like he had foot retention, so looked slightly dodgy - however he was riding it quite well - sadly lost him in traffic.
Also guy on a blue single speed with white horns getting sideswiped by a car turning left off balham hill, the rear of the car caught his leg and he did well to stay on - annoyingly I didnt get the reg plate in time.

Out of complete curiosity what does riding brakeless 'quite well' entail? It's a genuine question :)

His bike's parked just along the road from where I'm sitting. What a splendid array of attachments he has - the rack on the back with its amazing collection of dowelling extensions is truly a work of genius. I forgot to check whether he'd switched yet to the winter-season double-glazed version of the salad bowls.

hes a funny old chap, very nice guy, but i think he's a little funny in the head. his bike weighs about 25kg as well he has absolute stallion legs to push that thing around all day

In a sense that initially I thought he would have no control over his bike, mainly because I couldn't see any foot retention, and his riding was a bit erratic - however he was weaving through heavy traffic fairly well and managing to not end up in the back of a taxi, so either it was actually his or he was a quick learner.

Really annoys me to see people riding brakeless without any foot retention. Plain fucking dumb. Must be the cool new radical thing? Maybe this my chance to up the game by going "CRANKLESS". SHHIIIIIIIIT!!!!

i don't understand surely it's impossible to cycle brakeless without foot retention. couldn't he just have had custom or normal looking clipless shoes?

well you can, I believe it's called a "jamaican skid". You place your right or left foot under the pedal and hold back on the other, must be fucking hard to do at speed.

Crazily I saw somebody riding a singlespeed (not fixed) brakeless today.* They must have been doing that in preference to pushing it because she was pedalling and then coasting at about 0.00001 mph

Rode with a quick girl on a baby pink condor, rocking pink helmet and backpack, orange tinted anti-glare shades and shiny blue shimano shoes from Upperstreet to Mt Pleasant this morning. Doubt you're on here but "hi" if you are. You were notable for being the only person not riding like a twat in that notoriously twatty stretch.
