Newbie: integrated headset

  • ok im slowly putting together my new bike an dits the first time ive tackled an integrated 1 1/8 headset. should be with me in the post tomorrow.
will i need specialist tools (ie jus go to my LBS) or should i be able to do it myself?

i tried UTFS to no avail but im sure someone will link me to this being covered lots of times before

  • Only problems you might find will be with the crown race and star nut. Search for them and all will be revealed.

  • Alternatively just try typing in 'integrated headset' into the search, you might find a thread like this that tells you exactly how to install an integrated headset:

  • Search fail... Let the burning commence...

  • would have helped if i could spell "integrated headset" when i try to search
    cheers

  • instead of a star nut and cap just use one of these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=17766

much easier, and better! a choice of brands too...

Are these new? I can't believe I've never heard of them.

  • I use them on my mountain bikes - been around for about 10 years?

They are great - much easier to fit and no worries about pulling the star nut through!

  • I use one of these on my Carbon forks

Is there any reason why these can't work on Alloy steerers? It's just that it mentions it's 'For caorbon Sterers'
