  • To those who registered aliases pretending to be James Martin, be warned that next time you do so without adequately and clearly communicating unambiguously that you are in fact an alias and a caricature... that I will take soem action that at the very least removes the ability for you to create aliases, and at the worst (depending on what you posted as the alias) might involve going nuclear on you.

    From the rules:

Any accounts registered must not be used deceitfully. By this we mean that you may not pretend to be someone other than you are for deceptive purposes. Further, any famous people registered must be clearly seen to be a caricature and not an attempt to pass yourself off as that person. Finally it is not acceptable to pass off aliases as real people, and to that extent you must avoid posting in the New Members thread or other places where you may pass the alias off as being real. Generally, aliases must be at least vaguely recognisable as an alias.

I basically want to avoid all scenarios in which legal action can be taken for the forum accommodating posts which can clearly be damaging to the people involved. And sure, these people may well be loosely tongued idiots, but I would bet that their lawyers are not.

You are certainly very free to create aliases that are very clearly caricature and spoof, and to use this alias for satirical purposes. But when posts suggest that the identity is real, then I will act.

Unfortunately today, several of the aliases were passed off as real and that forces me to act. All of the aliases today have been nuked, as have their posts. But those behind the aliases, you just get this warning to be aware of this in future... satire fine, passing-off not fine. Be very sure that no-one at all can be left in any doubt that what you are doing is satire.
