and you're right, there are some of these in Cable street and they tend to alternate priority just to make things that little more dangerous, I've been driven into along here.. I started taking the A13 (Commercial Road) as I felt safer and it was easier to predict what cars and peds would do.
I liked the A13 for cycling - really big, wide bus lanes.
So, because you can't guarantee cars will stop, you have to wait and make sure it's clear anyway before you go. Which means that you may as well go back to the old style cycle paths, where everyone knew what the situation was.
I just don't agree with encouraging vulnerable road users to cross right in the path of heavier vehicles, where there is a risk of serious damage and/or death if the vehicle fails to stop.
It's gambling with your life, based on the hope that a car will stop for you and finding out to late to take evasive action if they don't.
