  • Damn ! My rant on the Daily Mail website has been deleted.

[EDIT - they are all gone, no comments from anyone !]

This one put a lump in my throat (maybe because my own little boy is also called Eddy).

*"Knowing they wouldn't hear me coming, I stepped on the gas, waited until the split second before I overtook them, then gave them an almighty blast on the horn at the exact same time I passed them at speed. The look of sheer terror as they tottered into the hedge was the best thing I've ever seen in my rear-view mirror. . . "

My son, Eddy, was killed 8 years ago, I cannot tell you how much I miss him. His best friend got a collapsed lung, shattered eye socket, broken cheek bone and broekn collar bone plus other lesser injuries - but by the grace of God's will is still with us (a third boy, who I know less well, got only minor fractures). The three were out cycling when a driver did something like your proud boast of running other road users off the road. You have made a grown man cry today, you should not be proud of this. Your admision to criminal activity has been sent to the police."*

  • I hope the next time he is planning to have a relaxing bath with a glass of wine listening to his favourite radio show, just at the point when he is fully reclined and the bubbles are up to his neck, the batteries in his radio run out, he realises his wine is corked and that he needs a poo.

    Brilliant

I hope he reads that and realises what a fat fat obnoxious cunt he is

  • we all can only hope that wasn´t true....:(

  • That post about Eddy definitely shut me up.

it does show just how dangerous this 'harmless piece of fun' is.

  • we all can only hope that wasn´t true....:(

+1 as the timing of my trivial post was really bad if it was. He really is a nob of the highest order.

  • i rest my case for today, been here all day, this guy really made me sick. all the best folks. log out.

  • Damn ! My rant on the Daily Mail website has been deleted.

Althought it has been deleted, at least we know that the Daily Mail realise how much people been complaining about his hatred toward cyclists.

coming from a facist paper, not sure if they will do anything about it.

  • They've deleted the right to reply but not the offending article.

  • if he drives a lambo, does this raise earlier issues or are there grounds to just d-lock him?

  • coming from a facist paper, not sure if they will do anything about it.

fascist is a tad strong no?

  • hi everyone.. not posted in a while..
of course this guy is a complete idiot, but rather than post offending and threatening behavior to him, surely this is an opportunity to highlight the massive indifference the mainstream media show towards cyclists.. it reminds me of the BBC radio 'journalist' that used a public platform to air some awful views a while back. (see old posts - i cant remember her name..)
surely we should use this opportunity constructively, and rather than 'i hate....blah blah " facebook groups and tweets etc.. we should really think about approaching the media to give a considered and appropriate response. i feel that by responding in this way, we stand more chance of actually achieving something, rather than just venting/ranting a response...

  • fascist is a tad strong no?

well, they support Mussolini and Hilter right until 1939.

  • shit chef, shit presenter, shit column - fat twat.

You forgot the fact he's a cunt.

  • On a more serious note than my last 'I hope he need a poo when he's in the bath' post, his casual, dehumanising attitude to cyclists is very dangerous. He is sending a message out to other drivers that we are not worthy of consideration and as Tynan's post has highlighted this attitude can lead to real tragedy. Such flippant stereotyping engenders a carte blanche to people of the same persuasion that racism, sexism etc are okay. Is this mindset worthy of publication in a national newspaper? No. So some kind of retraction is the least that is required. HYFU cos he's just a nob is not enough for me.

  • cheers hael, but i'm being serious... sorry if i'm being a bit dry and not jumping on and calling martin a cunt.
but there are too many examples over the last year of how mainstream media influences the general perception and relationship between cyclists and the motorist.. I see this as an opportunity to respond in a decent and democratic way, and in doing so leverage a bit of public opinion to our own advantage..
its a throw away remark to call him a cunt and even more childish to threaten him and his property etc.. surely much more clever to use the opportunity to raise the overall problem of how such high profile public figures and the media they are representing are able to condone this position.
This is finally the opportunity to present ourselves in a proper manner and begin the re-education of the british public towards respecting cyclists..

  • sleep on it people... but i'm serious..
time for decent, considered and appropriate action.. not ranting or potential threatening behavior..I really cant see what good that does us ? to me that completely alienates us from the point and gives the Daily Mail et al ammunition in which to defend our responses..

PM me if you want to discuss more
    Pearcey

  • Completely agree. Let's quote James Martin for posterity.

"But I don't care about any of that, and here's why. Twenty minutes into my test drive I pulled round a leafy bend, enjoying the birdsong - and spotted those damned Spider-Man cyclists. Knowing they wouldn't hear me coming, I stepped on the gas, waited until the split second before I overtook them, then gave them an almighty blast on the horn at the exact same time I passed them at speed.

The look of sheer terror as they tottered into the hedge was the best thing I've ever seen in my rear-view mirror. I think this could be the car for me."

Maybe you should care James. Maybe it wasn't so much a look of terror as much as a look of wtf are you doing and why?

  • aww come on i just finished my cunt book jpg

    False dilemma.

The response cannot be divided so casually into invective and/or an "opportunity to present ourselves in a proper manner".

I agree that 'cunt' will not register, but that does not mean that frank and vocal contempt will not register.

  • Tesla aren't exactly happy about the review, especially as their PR person is a committed cyclist;
