Regarding the original inquiry. Can't ever image this being used in a mark for LFGSS way too star trek. Also linked characters in any other configuration won't work. If you want to make this into a useable typeface take it back to the drawing board, start of with full characters and then start working out a system for linking the characters under a defined set of rules etc.

Exactamundo! you need a grid, and start from there, maybe you have, each one of the letters need to match certain specific points
