I never said it was bad. But do you feel the same about everything? Do you only read the finest books: Rimbaud, Camus, Keats. Drink the finest wines, wear the best clothes. Visit only the finest galleries?
In all areas of my life, physically, mentally and metaphysically permitting i do my very, very best.
and where i dont do my best, i understand that i dont.

If that is true, then I admire you.

subjectivity fail.
I have been involved in DIY record labels and bands for the last 10 years. I love musics and embrace my snobbery and used to feel the sentiments expressed in the orginal post.
I am entirely happier now that i havent learnt that these things do not matter at all!
not one jot.
this quest for authenticity in music is unending and impossible and will eventually make you stop listenning to or enjoying music. Put more energy into finding the music you do like/creating music.and recognise that all of the people on your list of the angels of musical integrity have made compromises to get where they are or have worked an angle for kudos.
i.e Bjork calling brian chippendale into drum on a track at the height of lightning bolt mania or the obscene amounts of money bands of integrity are pocketting to reform and play events such as ATP (e.g. slint)Enjoy what you like. Forgot the rest, you'll not convert anyone to your way of thinking. It is unimportant. or choose the route of most resistance and spend the rest of music career grinding the enjoyment out of every note you listen to or play.
I agree with you.....like i said earlier on.....i'm not looking to convert - i just needed to vent.....i'm incredibly happy with the music i do and the music i find and love and i'm very happy with my opinions.
I will have bad days and good days....today just needed a pointless angry thread....tomorrow, maye not.

mate - you're way off and you know it.
i NEVER set a bunch of rules....read carefully next time.
A band i like have good values, a band i dont like dont have good values.....surely thats OBVIOUS.....i like Stephen Fry - he is good, i dont like Hitler - he was bad...conicidence?!
I did list an entire list of reasons why Nash is a twat.
"your list of bands that you like are just as bad as the list you opened this bollocks thread with in the first place" - then by your own admission, stop talking, this thread/my point doesn't need your sophistry.
"music is just music" - sorry i have a larger attention span for this kinda thing and sorry i have a passion, maybe if you cared more about somethings you'd understand.
You think you have me nailed, but you dont.
dude below this post has pretty much nailed it. you have a passion for believing you have superior taste.

As i said yet again in an earlier post - i dont protest that i have a 'superior' taste or anything.......its just johnny public has low standards.
My arguement is water-tight.

by which i mean......i have a level of understanding, respect, admiration, interest, knowledge, insight etc etc that i consider to be basic - and yet i see low standards being accpeted widely.....not good enough if you ask me.

Johnny public = "Poptones"!

What magnificent formula did you use to find out that your understanding, respect etc., however basic, is even slightly in the right direction?
Reasons for liking music is entirely subjective. You cannot be watertight. The fact that you think you are is the reason that people are suggesting that you can smell your own back teeth.

The same magic formula that most people who care about music use. I'm not saying anything particularly new or outrageous. It's no secret.
And i'm really not up my own arse....if i was, i'd have no complaints about music and would be touring the world right now!!!

Brilliant....thats my point entirely....you and i would have many wicked musical conversations.....
Given the evidence available in this thread I'd say the chances are slim to none.
