On the first of the B Cat sprint heats, I led off from the start. A gentle pace. Really rather pleasantly slow. I got myself in the front determined to keep the pace down for a lap and a half so that I would have some puff for the final push. We glide gently to the first bend. And Schick is off. From nowhere comes the ponytailed Teuton powering around the bunch at great speed. I swore at him, sadly within earshot of my young daughter. A decision, Let him wear himself out or take his wheel. I kicked hard and caught the wheel. No one else came with me. Once on his wheel I was able to relax and start sledging him until the last turn when I rose slightly on the banking and attacked.
Schick rode in the play offs. When he repeated his early attack, they let him go and he romped home.
