I'm interested in the Grubb...
What's the spacing on the rear dropouts? And clearance-wise, would it take 700s?
And out of interest, how old is it?
-
• #8
Hi, the Grubb spacing (measured) is 129mm from memory. It would take 700c's no problem. Not sure about the age I'm afraid.

great. I'm new to road bikes so some extra info would be really helpful...
-I'm almost 6', and i'm told a 56/7/8cm frame would be the right size for my height. would you agree?
-I'm looking to build a singlespeed, would these frames be suitable?
-How much am i looking at paying for a BB? and can you recommend somewhere to buy one?I know that's a lot but it'd really help me out with working out what i need for the build!
Cheers

Yep no worries mate. I'm pretty much the same height as you and I ride a 57. You will find anything in the range 56 to 58 will be absolutely fine and as you get more into cycling you'll find out whether you prefer a slightly smaller or larger frame - it's all down to preference really.
Yes these frames are all suitable for singlespeed/fixed conversions.
In terms of a bottom bracket you want an english threaded one, probably with an axel length of about 110mm and whether it is a square taper fitting or something else will depend on which cranks you wish to use. Somewhere like sjscycles are very goodin terms of selection and price, you shouldn't have to pay any more than a tenner.
Hope this helps,
Joe

ST 56cm c-c 58cm c-t
TT 57cm c-c
Original headbadge, comes with headset but no BB. £60
ST: 56.5cm c-c 58.5cm c-t
TT 57cm c-c
Nice Campagnolo headset and shimano (I think) BB included. Small patch of what looks like anti rust paint where the front mech was. Some marks where the mudguards were fitted and flaking to the chrome on the stays. Derailleur hanger removed so fixed/SS only. £110
ST 56.5/57cm c-c 58.5/59cm c-t
TT 56.5cm c-c
surface rust on tubes. Wheels just to show geometry. £65
ST 57cm c-c 59 c-t
TT 56.5cm
Fitted with Campagnolo BB, a headset which looks a bit of a combination of parts - the top cup is Campag C-Record but don't think the bottom cup matches, and a Campagnolo C Record double crankset in nice condition. Have single chainring bolts if you want them, didn't remove crankset as my crank remover doesn't match the threads.
The frame has some marks where it appears Ghana (the parent company of Giubilato) stickers have been removed. Much of the stuff you see on the frame is glue which comes off with a fingernail but the paint is a different shade where the stickers were due to the sun.
Frame has stome nice features like engraved fork crown, top of seat stays, top tube cable routing, chromed forks and chainstay and Gippiemme dropouts. There are some chips to the paint but no rust as it appears the frame is fully chromed under the paint.
£160
