CK headset: not enough thread for lock nut

Posted on
  • Alright, in advance of track day tomorrow I've swapped out the crappy 105 headset from my track frame to a nice CK one...however I clearly didn't do enough research on the stack heights, as I can only get the lock nut on 1 or 2 turns, as the steerer tube is just not quite long enough now.

So, my question is, will this be safe to ride for one day or am I going to have to go back to the old headset?

    Cheers!

  • at your speed you'll have no worries

  • Cheeky cunt. But you're right.

  • you can face off a little bit of metal form your fork crown and headtube to gain couple of mil.....

  • a gripnut should help :)

  • What's wrong with a 105? Put that back on. Has to be better than something that does not fit?

  • The 105 was pretty ropey...and yep, gripnut will help ;-)

Thanks anyway. It would be rushing things to get this ready for tomorrow so will be chancing it with a hire bike, if I do any racing that is
