  • Good, i'll give you my address so you can send the frame over to me.

  • It's all yours

  • I feel that they're argument is often very wooden and most of the time they just bark.

The langster is a piece of beauty.

But alex to be fair i think you would be annoyed if someone put some carbon cranks on your level, it just ain't right.

If i woke up to find my level had carbon cranks, I wouldn't exactly be happy.

    I'd be fucking ecstatic!!!

  • *
    Knowledge?* What knowledge?

How can you pass off this image-over-substance, this magpie-like obsession with 'this crankset over that' or 'these handlebars over those' as knowledge?

All this forum offers is a load of predominantly worthless opinion.

    .

    • 1 some of the shit chatted on here recently has nothing to do with building a decent bicycle

Mind you i think KC was playing along on this occasion with some of his suggestions

  • And KC, i wouldnt sell it, and thats coming from someone who would have snapped that frame up had i not missed it from being on holiday, rare as fuck, great classic design, yet still modern enough to do the business.

  • This Look still gives me the chills... thatz the shitz!!!

  • Kingcutter... a Brooks?! Dear oh dear. I's put a motherfucking black turbo on that thing.

  • maybe a concor.

  • this thread shows too often that you can't buy taste!

But that you can get snobbery on credit.

  • needs drops

    +1

  • My next project would require something like this:

Doe anyone other than Paul make these?

No not a brooks saddle tape, not doing that now anyway.

Make what? Only Paul make a Paul hub. Or are you refering to the fixed/disc brake combination? In which case Surly make one. Not sure about anyone else though.

Yeah, I meant the fixed/disc brake hub.

  • What about a nice single-speed disc? Do Paul do one of those?

    I really fancy a simple, single off-roader.

  • I'm putting my name down for a Pergrine, and will be using the adaptability to full effect.

Having an offroad, tourer and fixed comuter in one frame and two and a half wheelsets reallys fits with my space constraints.

As much as I don't need a disc brake on a fixed wheel hub, it would bug me having the lever on my bars not doing anything.

  • Also Goldtec do a disc/singlespeed hub. I'm planning to get one of these for my offroad rear wheel.

    Any recommendations on 29er rims?

  • I've done some reading up on 29er rims. My 2p....

The Salsa Delgado is raved about on 29er sites, but they seem to only do a cyclocross width version now.
Its quite possible the Salsa Semi has taken over as their lightweight 29er rim.
Personally I really wanted a pair of Salsa Gordos (thems some fat rims, 35mm), to add volume to my tyres and reduce the likelyhood of pinch flat at low PSI. But they are really pricey.

Both SunRingle and WTB do a well priced range, covering a range of off-road disiplines. But I have read a couple of bad reviews of the WTB rims.

Stans do a range of lightweight rims, if weight is a big priority.

Halo freedoms are well priced, have a good width, and are pretty strong.

There are also quality offering from the DT swiss and mavic.

In the end I went for some Velocity Blunts, as they seemed to have a great balance of width and weight. I have yet to recieve them though (6 weeks, grrrr), so cant give a real world review of them.

My advice would be to decide what sort of tyre width you want to run and narrow the choice down that way. Running narrowish tyres on wide rims is less than ideal, as are fat tyres on narrow rims.

    Hope this helps.

  • I've never read a bad review of them.

The Blunts I've ordered are designed to give the XC guys a bit of width, and as such, are not as strong as the Gordos (tough enough for all mountain usage). The gordos weigh in at 700g but IMHO the extra width makes up for this extra weight.

wide rims allow for wide, high volume, tyres + lower PSI. This gives better traction and comfort.
Also, rear wheel traction is often considered of extra importance sans gears.

  • Surly don't make a fixed disc hub...the only fixed they do is 120 non disc.

Scott, I'm certain that they introduced one into the line up in the last 6 months... although I admit that I can't find it on Google so I could be completely mistaken!

    Interesting option.

Not sure I'd go this route, but interesting non the less.
