now try skidding with the OTHER foot forward.
muhahahhahahaah
(it doubles your skid patches, for some gears)

And is something that I find impossible.
I would have 30 skid patches if I could master it however.

Easy lol?

Try skidding to the left with your right foot forward, then switch feet and whip it straight out to the right :p

49x19 ambidextrous, 38 potential skid patches. yes!

hipster points for the arse skid.
Until I take the pants off I assume. No pants = no evidence.

While i was learning yesterday i made a point of doing alternate feet forward cos i figured it had to be done. Way easier than learning to hop a bmx wrong foot forward.
Is it normal for the back end to swing a bit to the left when left foot forward and vice versa, or is that just my shitty noob technique? Presumably traffic skids need to be dead straight to avoid accidental doom. -

^ Left foot, right foot, swing out to the left, swing out to the right, mix it up, but never skid into a moving car. Danger.

just went to hampstead heath, found a path full of gravel and all of a sudden i was skidding all over the place! very satisfying, thanks for all the advice people which helped me to get skidding.
skidding on the road is still really tough though.... practice makes perfect thougha couple of questions, are thinner tyres easier to skid with? does higher tyre pressure help?
and what tyres are best for skidding... (don't mind if they don't last ages)?ps my knees hurt a little :)

Could do that in the wet on my old bike... but not nailed it on the new one (with higher 73GI).

None of that matters, what matters is learning the point of the revolution of the pedals to engage the skid. There is a point at which skidding is easy as fuck, on virtually any gear, tyre, crank length etc.

The 'best' tyres for learning how to lock-up are cheap ones! After that - long lasting touring tyres make sense. Rather those than sticky race tyres.

Ok fair enough, i'm sure you know what you are talking about, i was surprised i was able to skid by simply moving forward only a little, not the balls on the stem stuff i watched at the skidding competion!

yeah don't do that! you'll never slow down that way.

Now you've got to learn how to skid the front tyre by grabbing it with your hands. Tip: wear gloves.

Oh just take your cock out and smear it on the top tube instead, same effect.

I find that point is when I stop peddaling with my back leg, letting it lift my ass out of the saddle then push/pull. I can do it with either foot foward now, took a couple of months to get it down.
I found it a lot easier to skid when I changed from single strap/plastic cages to double strap/metal cages. Much more retention.

I suspect you're just trying to sell gloves Mr. Crispin Glover...

I once did a skid so big, that it melted the tarmac into the image of Jesus.

how cute! i remember back in the day (last year) being ridiculed for asking how to skid. the regular clique here regarded it as an arcane rite of passage that could not be learnt, just found... how lucky you newcomers are that the taps of wisdom are now flowing freely.

when i try to skid it feels like my kneecaps are going to shatter. I hate skidding for this sole reason. and i am sure it is a myth.

do a turnbar.
