What are your maximum revs fixed?

What are your maximum revs (crank revolutions per minute) fixed-wheel?
What is the maximum rpm you can sustain?

My max so far is 146rpm
I feel ‘comfortable’ sustaining about 115rpm

I know a lot of you won’t spoil the lines of their beautiful fixed-gear grods with anything as modern-ugly as a cyclocomputer, but for those who do, here’s how I derived my rpm (alternatively use Rabbit http://software.bareknucklebrigade.com/rabbit.applet.html to give an approximation.) :

I’m running ‘49T x 20T ‘
(165mm cranks
700c x 32mm tyres)

Max speed achieved so far a modest 28.8mph (Cateye computer says)

49/20x27 = 66.15 ‘gear inches’
66.15 x pi = 207.82 ‘development’ (inches)

[1mph = 1056 inches-per-minute]

28.8 x 1056 = 30412.80 inches-per-minute

30412.80/207.82 = ***146.34rpm

***Legs going like 'bees wings' let me tell you!
But need to HTFU and break the 30mph barrier now (152.44rpm)...

I run the same gear as you and do about 35 down Greenwich park hill which is about 180rpm couldn't maintain that on the flat though!

the highest i have recorded according to cateye and rabbit gear calculator is 29.2 MPH on 41x17 with 165 cranks and 700 x 23 tyres (63.4GI) coming across waterloo bridge

which is between 150 and 160 rpm

come to Rollapaluza if you really want to find your max "cadence", our record was an average 254....most top racers reach around 200.

About 165rpm on the road on 170mm cranks, 180rpm on the rollers on 165s.

Sustained? Depends how long I have to sustain it for. I averaged 100rpm for 10 miles a couple of weeks ago.

No - Matt Crampton averaged 254 for 18sec. I've hit 279rpm for a nanosecond, but can only average more like 220rpm over that sort of time (on a good day).

Plenty of people can get over 300rpm. Pedalling form/fast twitch/general conditioning/practice. But mainly fast twitch genetic advantage.

I averaged (not maxed!) at 176 or 186rpm :) can't remember which but I was quite pleased!

You don't, they give you a readout thing afterwards that tells you.

and just count the knots ?
