Very brutal and reminded me of some stuff I try not to think about too much. I'm constantly amazed at the "shock tactics" approach to PSAs* over here.

they are normally a bit daily mail ie; "If you drive over 30MPH you are a child-killing nazi paedophile scum"
a load was spent on that dancing bear thing for awareness of cyclists and no fucker took any notice, people are pigshit stupid in this country and the only way to get them to think even just a little bit whilst driving is to use adverts like this IMO.

if it shown in England on national television, I sincerely hope so, it literally slap people's face.

it was done on the cheap for the local area in the land of the whales. the kids came up with the texting idea and acted in the video. the local coppers wanted to focus on phoning but they said TXTing was a bigger issue.
good on them, shock tactics are brutal but it will get noticed and the message is right -

The seat belt ones are brutal as are the ones about slows speeds in residential areas, and the warnings to teens to not get run over.

Shocking enough, you've gotta be a fruitcake to text while driving anyway.
Wonder how many cyclists text on the bike?

part of me are glad that they made this video, but other part of me want them to focus on phoning, to put it simply, if simply driving while using the telephone can cause an accident, texting will undoubtly increase the likeihood of an accident.
netherless like RPM said, people are stupid, this tactic work better IMO.

I see a lot of fruitcakes, daily.

Although Blackberries seem to be the biggest culprit that I see now, more so than phones.

While I've come upon a handful of pure idiotic ninny texting on their bike posing a danger to themselves as well as other, they're still not driving a motorised vehicle that are likely to cause a bigger fatalities than a bicycle.

If drivers need this kind of sensationalist bloodbath type flic to educate them that **THEY SHOULD PAY ATTENTION WHILST DRIVING** then they really should not be on the roadin the first place.
My answer is to make everyone retake their driving test (with a medical and eyetest) every 5 years.

You got me thinking about this, making a car advert like this is a good move, since there are a lots of cars out there and there are people who will still use them, however if they made a similar advert with a bicycle involved.
Would it put people off cycling for life?
A cyclists is much more vulnerable, it can easily take a simple clipped from a car's windmirror to potentially injuried or even killed a cyclists, I'm kinda glad that they hasn't made an advert like that with bicycle.

The video shows her looking away, so you are spot on, the tools out there (who we sadly can't stop from drving) will rationalise that calling someone means they have their eyes on the road.. thats a lot of people out there
It's the same people who drive at 90mph and hammer on the brakes at the 50mph speed camera to accelerate again.

will it make a difference?
Not enough really, certainly not soon enough. They problem exists that people who text or phone while driving think themselves capable of doing both at the same time. Most of them who actually bother to watch this will ridicule the actions of the driver portrayed and rationalise their own typical actions as being much better. If anything it will stengthen their resolve to continue doing so.
The best way to approach this is to do what was done with drink driving and to create a huge social stigma against using a phone while driving. Peer pressure is and always has been more effective than PSA announcements.

for some reason around 1.08 I started to hear Chris Morris's soothing tones.. something along the lines of
"When shouty man in button'd sweater runs
and thrice mouthnoises "ring an ambulance".." -

nicely filmed n all but i dont think it will make much difference least not in london.
i could go for a ten minute cycle now and see at least three people on the phone.
four days ago i saw a man texting and driving. at the next lights i asked him to put his phone down and he asked me why.if it was against the law to have your phone anywhere apart from in the boot of your car when it was moving it might solve a few issues of temptation to answer or use it.
i dont think enough people have recieved points or fines for using their phone whilst driving for the law against it to make an impact.
sorry if i missed something.

good ad, they have good few like that (but not so long) over here. i'll try to find them.

What's our current penatly for driving with phone? a £90 fine was it?
From Dave Moulton's blog; Utah's law has been changed that if anyone was caught texting and driving now face up to three months in jail and up to $750 fine, if they cause injury or death, the penatly will become a felony and up to $10,000 fine and 15 years prison sentence.
the £90 fine for phoning/texting here is a joke, people pay that much for petrol nowadays.
