When I worked at a sign-maker's quite a few of the guys I worked with sprayed water onto the surface of big jobs before laying the vinyl, it allowed a bit of repositioning to be done where required and when you squeegee out from the centre the water usually carries the small air bubbles that get trapped with it. I never bothered with wet applications but It seemed to work absolutely fine and have no long term adhesive issues.
