i have also been told to use bettablast. mark on here got a frame done, looks pretty decent.
im getting mine done soon and they quoted me something like 48 pounds for frame and fork powder and clear coat.

it depends on the frame but if your skilled enough, painting with montana cans looks just great for 5euros!
like I said, depends on frame and usage...for an all-around cheap frame, I would go montana style on it! -

We use Northumbria Coatings in Cramlington for powder coating at work. Always been good

nitromors, bare metal, a great look! (but not as sweet as a nice fresh paintjob)
You could ask at M Steel cycles, they use to (maybe still do) build bike frames so someone there may be able to refer you to a good painters.

i asked steels to paint a frame a while back and they wanted £150 or something ridiculous.

Yeah they just send them to Bob Jacksons'. I looked on their site the other week and it was around a hundred quid. Expensive but then you get what you pay for.
Just make a good effort of preping the frame and then spray em with graff paint as already suggested. Graff paint goes on well due to low pressure and good coverage. Plus the worlds your lobster when it comes to colours !!

If you want it straight away theres a graff shop in heaton called Trackside. Also both Blackwells and Newcastle Art Centre sell Montana though its about 6-7quid a can.
If you wanna wait of buy in bulk check out Monsterpaints online. I painted my car with it and it was good shit and about half the price of montana. -

I went out for a cycle yesterday, and made a stop of at Betta to get a bit more info. They have a very good range of colours, a lot better than I expected.
Prices were £38+VAT for any solid colour.. and ~£60+VAT for one of the more elaborate paint schemes.. some of which are fairly funky. 48 hour turnaround.
I will most definitely use them when I get round to it/knowing exactly what I want.Re. spray cans .. first I don't trust myself, and 2nd I think the result in general would probably be a bit shit compared to powder-coat. Each to there own however..

I'm with Ricky here. Unless you're bike is super tidy anyway with good clean parts etc., then go street and rattle can it !
Back in the day, rattle-can your BMX with all the bits still on. Job done. Money saved.

Good to hear betta were a pleasant surprise in terms of choice and cost.
With regards to painting your self, its all in the prep. The better and more thorough the prep work, the easier the painting will be. I Paint my old golf in 5 hours with 5 cans of graff paint and it looked fine (no runs whatsoever!). I think a part of that was down to graff paint being a lot more controlled than normal spraycans.

right, i don't trust you either ;) but my rattle can jobbies on hubs(!) seat post, front brake and stem(!) are as smooth and shiny painty delicious as can be. it is in the preparation, all in the time spend oven_cleaning (if alloy), sanding and priming (etch primer #8 or was it #6, forgot, check halforts) and heating all the "spray booth", the parts and the cans to 25-30degr. for smooth flow, fast dry and proper pressure.
keep the parts exposed to sun afterwards for a good week, or at least warm and you'll have some nice custom parts. it is of advantage, if parts are not prown to get dinged and rubbed and the like all the time since this paint isn't as tough as two component car laquer and of course amortexed_pow. well but is also is a fraction of the price, if you have the time and patience, young padawan, patience!

I spoke to a couple of car body shops near where I live re. powder coating.
They both pointed me towards a place in Shiremoor called Betta..
Does anyone have any experience of this place ? Costs .. quality etc. ?
