Wanted: Rear Hub & Small Chainring for polo.

  • And here comes the vagueness:

I'm after a fixed rear hub, flip flop would make me very happy, and I thought I needed 19h but this sounds a bit wrong compared to the others listed here. (dons flameproof suit)

Lastly, somewhere around a 26t chainring for a 5 arm crank, is required to get me on the polo courts. Again, I'm not sure of the bolt sizes so I'm happy to look at buying both (?) sizes and or whole chainring groupsets possible because my BB is quite wobbly anyway.

I'm sure you've heard my mumblings of needing cheap as chips stuff lest I face searching the Guardian Soulmates forums as well for someone else who's happy to put up with my overgrowing bike obsession.

    Thank you for watching.

Did you count the valve hole, if so you'll have an 18h rim, just search for a 36h hub and lace every other hole, hope this helps

  • I'm sure I've got a 28t chainring for a 110bcd 5 bolt crank somewhere. Yours for £3 via paypal gift...

  • The On-One hubs are pretty cheap and decent, combined with a strong rim they'd be perfect for polo.

A 19h rim sounds odd and weak though, hmm.

    Hi Seb.
I counted the holes and spokes on the wheel I've blagged and just realised that my math is as bad as my bike knowledge. So there's 18h.
Did wonder if every other hole would be strong enough.

It does help, you're a legend. Cheers mate.

  • I can't see 18 spoke wheels lasting too long on the court

    Hey Tel,

This would be most pleasing, you're a legend cheers.

Let me know if you have it and your email address and I'll gift you the poundage.

    Thanks mate!

Fair point. I'm having to take what I can get at this stage of the game however.
Perhaps I'll put some disks on them then.

  • Yeah fair enough, disks should offer a fair amount of protection. I guess if you use 36h hubs then you can easily get better rims at a later date.

  • This is the ring I've put it on an old crank arm so you can see how and where it fits. It's a 28t alloy ring with some wear. Send me a pm if you still want it:

Where's the best places to get a cheap one do you reckon Jono?

    Cheers

  • They're ~£15 from Planet X, used to be £22, have been known to be £12:

  • 36h out of stock.
    Ar$$es.

    Great tip though, cheers mate.

  • ive got a 39t 94bcd crankset going for 15dollar .....i used it with a 19tcog and all was good in tha polo hood!

  • That's [SIZE=2]55.4GI's innit thoo?

    Ouchy.

    You strong of thigh.

I'm still trying to get my old cranks off at this stage.
    Mechanics fail.

Will bear it in mind Marcus, cheers Buddy.

  • I have a Shimano triple chainset (square drive) off an MTB, that some enterprising soul may want to butcher for Polo???

  • The bloke that's selling this 'think's 'it's designed for a mulitple gear block'.

    S'not issit?

  • Seems that link doesn't work.

Am I thick (or seriously tired) or is this a track hub?

Planet X has run out of 36h On One hubs and I can't find them from anywhere else.

Apparently it's an 80's Maillard rear hub.

I just need the hub then it's polo a go go!

  • You can put a screw on freewheel on it but not a fixed sprocket, it has no thread for a lock ring.

  • Ta Moog, that's what I thought. So screw on freewheel sprocket required for this then. SS style.
