Reminds me of another story- one of the African aid charities replaced a tribes cooking pots, which were old cast iron units.
Tribes members started to get anaemic- no one could work out why as their diet was identical.
Turns out they had been getting a meaningful amount of iron from the old cooking pots, which they were not getting from the new stainless steel ones.
