A helmet is recommended!
Riding in London is generally dangerous. I had an accident at Haymarket with hardcore injuries when I was riding with a freewheel. All due to careless motorcyclists.
I think you mean that motorcycles are generally dangerous. Everyone here knows that cycling is really safe (except after Easts). -

Motorcycles must be dangerous because riders seem always to wear helmets. They also wear leather clothes and are often very fat.
Cyclists rarely wear helmets, don't wear animal skins and, with the odd exception (and I am very odd), are not fat. Cycling is therefore not dangerous.
