It's gonna take a couple of days of getting there and not many people being there, but if we go anyway and keep it regular, more people will come knowing that it's gonna be on. If it takes a few one on one games to get a decent scene going, it's worth it. It takes me 45 minutes to get to polo now and I still come.

ill be there

okay, let's do it. nia next week to scope it out. i suppose if it IS dry and we DO get kicked off we can always ride back to calthorpe.

Mallets - I'm up for getting one, last game I was at someone brought their own which was much nicer than the loaner type - where from?
Would OYB store "to sell" mallets so that there's a central place to get them from (as opposed to trying to organise back alley meetings to buy them). -

Nobody really sells mallets, you have to make them (or get someone else to). It's not too difficult a process, search youtube.

This Wednesday, 7.30, NIA carpark. Fo Sho.
-
• #184
Shouldnt we have a pre-NIA attempt at calthorpe park?
-
• #185
No, NIA to scope it out for future use when it's raining.
-
• #186
yeah, i saw our esteemed leader fin today - nia (actually meet outside sealife centre entrance), 7.30pm.

Yes comrade

Anyone keen to meet up earlier than 7.30. That's a long wait after work, 6 - 6.30 would be better. Have mallet if anyone else has a mallet and ball. Sun is shining for a change!

7.30 makes it possible for people to go home first and come back into town though...
-
• #191
i think you missed the last game when new times were agreed upon. maybe a poll is needed to decide on times. my preference would be 7.30 when dry at calthorpe, 6.30 when wet at NIA...

if we do get kicked off/dribbled on by drunks tonight, i'm sure everyone will be cool with the short ride to calthorpe park by the way.
-
• #193
i'm gonna say i'm not coming just in case. i have failed to turn up too many times after saying that i'm coming
-
• #194
that wasn't a veiled comment at you, pastry - it was at crankster. you snuck in there whilst i was waiting to make a post.
-
• #195
I didn't think it was.
However I do think I need to come to polo once in a while.
It would help chill me out as opposed to causing anger and bloodlust like the local skatepark does...

so we now have a (pretty) safe bet for wet-weather poloing on the bottom of the NIA carpark. we had some token resistance from someone in a hi-viz vest and a walkie-talkie, but he clearly didn't want to be the one physically forcing us out of there, so hopefully we'll be okay next time.
so: when it's raining meet at sea-life centre, 7.30.
when it's dry, calthorpe park, 7.30.

Sweet
Wish i hadn't taken the easy option now :( i need a bearwood polo partner to ride into town with for motivation. Finally got my flash triggers working too so could have taken some decent pics

yeah, you need to get down and play - before soon we're all going to be on the geneva/karlsruhe/london level of polo skills and you'll be left flailing.
i'm so in love with polo at the moment it's insane. it feels like being 15 and getting into skating; wanting to play all the time, feeling yourself improving, developing new moves etc etc. i hope enough people feel the same and want to keep it up, because i felt similarly about ping-pong and squash, but it's hard to find people to play with after a while.

I need to sort out some cover for a wednesday in order to play at least one wednesday night. On my recent trip to Seattle I met a few of the guys who won the World's recently and watched them play a few nights before they flew to Philly. I was in total awe....

Here's a few snaps from Seattle's finest. The guy who took them works for a company called Greggs Cycles, and is an amazingly talented photographer.

as far as mallets go - i'd get in touch with fin as he was on about selling them on at cost to whoever wants one.
as far as checking out the possibility of using the NIA, i reckon someone should just scope it out when they pass it next rather than make the effort to change venue for one week only when it may be 30c and dry...
how many people are realistically going to go the nia when it's raining? i'm pretty keen on regular polo, but in all honesty i'm not sure i'd be into dragging my sorry ass off the sofa for a 20min ride in the rain on the off-chance there'll be enough people there to play a game. if there's somewhere i can park a car and people have said they'd go, i'd be down for sure...
compared to some other forums, it seems people can't/won't check this forum and declare their intentions on the day so it's hard to know whether or not to make the journey.
