No, it's the 2 nipple-sized gaps on the tyre lever part of the tool, as alluded to by the OP.
they really are a pile of shit those lever for truing spokes, rounds nipples so easily, i would advise against it, in fact i believe that thats the only shitty tool on the hexus -

Well I'm glad to hear the level spoke wrench bit is a pain, now I don't feel as bad for losing the lever. But I wonder if you could get a replacement for the tool? (doubt)
I'll just stick with buying a proper spoke wrench, any recommendations on the types of what's best to use?

I'm no IT security consultant but registering your government name with initial as a forum ID is probably not a great idea?
Is it really? no one even says that about my username.

Oh really? I always actually read your ALIAS as edscoble, all one word. =)
Anyhoo, finally managed to get a spoke wrench, had a look at the bugger and realised one of the spokes were broke at the hub flange. It was very well hidden and somehow stayed in place...
Anyway, had a spare old wheel, took a spoke off, replaced it. Went over it with my Sharpie Marker to make it black :P
Then spent a considerable ammount of time truing the wheel.
I feel quite proud of myself because this was my first time. Yay....
