get a chain whip.

get a chain whip.
i was led to believe that using the rotafix method exerts more torque on the cog though (better leverage and that)
-
• #4
i find a chainwhip easier cos you can get the wheel/chainwhip in a position you want, and you can put your whole body weight into it easily.
just my opinion though.

You used the wrong four letter acronym.
What you want is HTFU, not UTFS.

You'll get it off with a chainwhip. It's easier to apply the pressure needed.

do a skid without a lockring?
(a frontbrake would be helpfull) -
• #8
Buy the Shimano chainwhip from hubjub and HTFU

+1 on the skid method. This works even when you don't want it to.

are you sure have set up right and turning in the right direction? i.e. the opposite to before

Chainwhip and htfu are the order of the day. Now go to bed with no beer and get the train into work tomorrow.

• #12
Yes

• #13
chainwhip + vice = win.

• #14
No apologies for saying this - it's worth being sure - Have you taken the lock ring off?

If it still doesn't come off try to put a generous amount of plus gas penetrant fluid available from most motor factors,. halfords, screwfix. In combination with chainwhip it's gonna remove it :-)

50/50 mix of automatic transmission fluid and acetone, let it soak in then make sure the wheel is secure (leave the tyre on for grip) and have at it with a chainwhip.

All I have to offer is how much I heart my LeVeL hub with its three Torx bolts. No matter how long the cog's been on there it can be removed with sweat or swearing.
I R smug barsterd :^)

It took me a year to get a loctited Phil cog off the freewheel side of my Phil hubs.
I never doubted the power of forged Dura Fucking Ace

hammer and peg.
my sprocket is totally stuck, no amount of rota fixing can get it off (i rotafixed it on only a week or so ago)
i've tried adding a bit of wd40 to loosen it to no avail, is there anything a lbs will be able to do that i can't?
yes i have UTFS and everyone just says rotafix!
