If music is to be considered High Art, then it must impress by being either ground-breaking, or show a rare perfection.
I actually doubt that art can be considered elevated enough in most artiste's (yes, with an E) lifetimes. There are some
of course, but I believe that death improves the chances of one's work being elevated to such lofty considerations.
Musically, I would say that Bob Marley's work has not only stood the test of a very short time, but has gained fans from all
over the world.....even those that speak no English at all. An outstanding feat.
Of the living musical artistes, I would say that the work of Prince, will also reckon very highly in the future.
