27 inch wheels and 700 wheels, what's the story?

  • agree. useful. So if you have an old frame redy for restoration, how can you tell what size rim it should take. I have a couple of old ones awaiting a makeover. I have no idea of the date, brand etc. I have an old 700 rim (measures 622 on the rim) and there appears to be about 15mm clearance on the fork. Could a 27inch squeeze in there?

  • There's 8mm difference - could be a problem with a track frame. Check the length of the cranks as well. I'm sure you can work everything out with a measuring tape. From what I read, imperials are measured to the edge of the rim, but 700c together with the tyre. But I can be wrong

  • So - slightly off topic, where is the best place to buy coloured 27inch tires.

  • I recently saw many different styles of 27" tyres for sale on eBay
