The bananas are always all gone about 3 mins after our fruit delivery. Usually, people put them on their desks next to their computers. I have, on occasion, picked them up and eaten them, even though they have been 'claimed'. I think it's a grey area, legally and, frankly, morally.
Nothing grey about it. If the claimer hasn't paid for the fruit in full and hasn't broken the skin, the banana is legally fair game. If that banana was going to be the claimer's lunch and they will now spend the afternoon in agonising hunger, that is legally funny.
