Glasses direct do these:
And they do a 2-week free try-at home thing.
My glasses are from them, they were dirt cheap and they are lasting up very well indeed.

@tomiasto - i have a spare pair (i.e. one's i'm wearing now) from glasses direct, they are good & very cheap. But i'm not into the 'clubmaster' style of those ones.
@spag - looked in there a while ago, and they didn't have any, but will check out

I don't mind paying for quality, as quality glasses can last a long time in my experience.

Try out Portobello Market, I'm forever seeing 1950's ones there, otherwise ask JD who owns a vintage shop and might have a pair lying around.

I got a decent pair of vintage NHS glasses from here http://www.retrospecs.co.uk/, they have a shop in St. Albans where you can try them on properly. Though the shop is actually called Robert Roope Opticians. I think it costs about £6 to get there on the train and I had a nice ride around the town while they fitted my lenses.

Cool! this is what i'm after. quite reasonably priced, too. thanks!
A couple of months back I lost my glasses (prescription), which I'd had for about 4 years. Can't find a pair to replace them at any of the opticians I've been to in London.
Anyone know of somewhere that sells these? They are basically knock offs of the standard 1950s NHS specs, but good knock offs (hence them lasting for 4 years), not crappy ones from urban outfitters.
