  • Just gauging interest at the moment but would want to do this ride late September early October on a non-clashing date with anything else in the calendar.
Did a really rough map and I think the distance would be sub 130KM.
(I don't know who that Woman is)

    Update:
    Leaving Bank at 8:30 Sharp
    Arriving East Drinks Pub 8:50ish
Leaving East Drinks Pub No Later Than 9:15

    ...

  • +1

  • Clacton - it's the Essex riviera.

  • in

  • bring the sea on!
This looks like a flat one, maybe we arrive early LOL

  • interested.

haven't been to clacton for years!

  • Thinking of doing this Saturday 19 September, 2009
Sundays are out as there is rail replacement buses all day every weekend.
Not many hills I'm sure but if you survived the St Margaret's ride you are ready for anything.

  • I'm in..

Haven't been to Clacton since I was a young child and every time I hear the name I get all nostalgic and excited. No doubt it won't be as nice as my dreams

  • They have Clacton-on-sea rock and a long pier though right?
    What could go wrong?

  • I have only been there once, back in the first half of this decade.

  • It's a dire place, should be raised to the ground and all trace of it removed.

Except for the Scalextric place under the promenade just to the South of the pier. That place is just awesome in every way.

  • This looks like a must do, Ma3k.

Can't commit till I know my work rota (as ever).

The lure of the sea though, after the so near-yet so far of St Margarets!

  • as ever.i'm intrigued.

  • Interested, what will the pace be like?

  • This I believe is a pretty flat course, we won't be leaving anyone behind.

  • I’m up for this one - shall I kick start the list?

  • What's 130k in actual honest english miles? 100ish?

EDIT Oh OK, more like 85m.

i'm up for a roll to the sea.
you said you'd mapped a route. would you be able to stick that up, please.
will this be daytime or nightime?

  • 80.778255 Miles..

Can't stick up any route as it is in a very rudimentary stage at the moment. Will be up soon for peer-review.

    Ride is a daytime one.

  • thanking you

  • I've never seen the Dunwich route (nor dun it), that'd presumably avoid the hell on earth that is the A12? Use that for about 70 miles, then turn right around Colchester, innit.

  • Just completed this : http://www.bikemap.net/route/295119

Could I get a peer-review, specifically getting out of London?
The map above is the best I can think of to avoid the A12.
    Not particularly hilly either.

125KM's from Bank, if we left at 8-9 we could get through the East-End before it's denizens where sufficiently awake enough to operate their front doors.

No crossing-point at Wivenhoe which is a shame.

  • I've never gone East out of London by bicycle but it looks a decent enough route to me

  • Looks good Jmak
Might be worth trying to find a route missing out that bit of A12 (its a pretty mental bit just approching the M25), turning right sooner to go around Harold Wood park, cross the M25 on the Warley road, through Great Wharley, then up to Brentwood.

Otherwise looks like a proper back route. Hope to bloody make this one.

  • didn't we do something similar for southend? skully? essex people? if so it's pretty nice. nothing horrendous there. or did i blank that out?
