  • The eternal dilema, 54 or 56.

Im looking to get a track pro, and it will be one of the above sizes. I dont have the option to try first unfortunately, so have been reading all the old posts on here regarding experiences and sizing calculators etc. Im still torn between the 2 however.

It will be used purely on track, so is it better to have a slightly smaller or bigger frame?

My current fixed is an old condor with 52cm c-c st and 53.5 c-c ht, and even with a 120mm stem this is too short. considdering the 56cm Fuji comes with a 100mm stem would this be the best option?

    Cheers in advance.

  • You say what your current fixed is, but what set up do you currently ride on the track?

  • Depends what you want to do on the track - allround, sprint, endurance etc. all very different set-ups

  • I currently ride said Condor with the brake removed!!

I want something to reserve just for track use though, will be visiting Newport once a week. As for which discipline I guess an all rounder to start with. I dont have enough experience to be able to say which I would like to focus on.

    PS Im 5'10" with a 32" inseam

  • Hillbilly has what I think to be a 54cm FTP- if you are in London you could bribe him with cider in order that you might have a go?

  • 56.

  • wow, im 6 inches taller than you and we have the same inseam.

this was no help at all.

  • They do come up slightly small also- my 61cm feels more like a 58cm.

Which is probably due to the sizing being centre to top on the seat tube, and it extends a fair way above the top tube.

  • the TT measurement is the important one.

a 120mm stem is ideal for a track bike.

you're telling me!! They have an integrated seat tube!!

Im not in London, but will pm matey anyway as it might be worth a small journey so as to get it right.

  • Aha- both mine and Hillbilly's are 2008 models without the integrated seat tube- be worthwhile checking to see if the geo has changed.

The 2008 pro is the 2009 comp I think.

  • My 2007 FT is a 61cm - and I've measured it as exactly 58 c-c.

    That is all.

  • Hi , Can anyone give me some advice or help. I have had the bike for about 3 months and have takern it back to the shop were i purchased it twice as the bottom bracket makes a klunking noise when going up hill . It also seems to fill loose . Last time the shop just regreased it and tightend it up,But two weeks later its the same.
Has anyone had the same problem and can anyone recomend a good replacement bottom bracket . Also a good bike shop or repairer who can do the job. I live in Wimbledon. Thanks

  • I've had mine for a year and a half and have always had problems with the stock BB. Creaking, clunking and coming loose quite often.

  • you don't regrease cartridge bottom brackets. get a new one of same dimensions, crank puller and bb tool and diy.

  • my advice for help is go to the Condor shop on Grays Inn road, the guys there are really helpful and give no bullshit advice, they are also a hell of a lot cheaper than any of the other bikes shops i've been to and are reasonable on fitting components

  • You'll need a BB with a 103mm spindle

  • i am, and yes it fits

  • I'm exactly 6 ft and have been riding the 56cm frame for a couple of months now and really like the fit - though I do prefer a slightly smaller fitting frame.

  • I'm 5"9 and I find 56 a little big, kinda scared I'll bust my nuts.

  • does anyone know the standard dimensions/threading of the bottom bracket that is standard on the fuji track?

can it be replaced with a miche primato, for example, to fit a miche advanced chainset?

  • ^ i'm guessing its english-threaded 68mm. You can certainly fit a Miche Primato plus chainset - but bear in mind chain alignment issues. Check the transmission database.

  • A Miche BB will have an ISO spindle, so fitting the existing cranks back on will give a dodgy chainline.

Sugino and (I think) FSA do an 102mm JIS taper BB for about £20

  • so, if you used a miche primato advanced cranks/chainring, on the recomended miche BB, you should end up with roughly the correct chainline? because these products are designed to work together to create ~42mm chainline?

    thanks for the help,

its just im struggling with 'what is compatible with what' (had a look throught the database too)....

essentially: i have a fuji track, with a knackered chainring and BB,

    my options are

1/ replace everything with new stock items
2/ upgrade! - easier said than done!
