As RedQuinn said you may encounter difficulties finding a sprocket big enough give the size of the chainring you are using.
I have used the Surly Singulator to convert a road bike to singlespeed, it seemed well up to the job.
Bear in mind you will need to run a tensioner as the frame has vertical dropouts.
