It takes money to make money.
You can build a free quality bike if you're willing to buy a whole one and sell some of the parts for more than the original purchase price.
If you don't want to spend any cash at all it's more difficult, but still possible.

Start searching skips and old scrap yards ... I bet you will find some decent kit knocking about in there ... front 700c wheels are ten a penny.

So *have a bolt and pedals. Great! I will be honest *I am not after charity, it would be much better to me if I could get this done purely through skip diving.
Anyone know where there are scrap metal yards apart from Lewisham, Angel or Bermondsey?

I've been thinking about doing this as well. The prob is that skips aren't what they used to be. The recycling/dump just off holloway road/Emirates gives the bikes to some charity I think - bastards!
I've been thinking about boot sales ever since that stolen geek house got picked up from one*.
Here's a list of boot sales in/around london. I recon that is worth a shot, then strip, sell and ebay to recover some of the capital outlay.
- I'm not for a minute suggesting buying stolen bikes, just that ppl might be house clearing etc. and bargans could be had from those not in the know.

Just so you know, I have used the search and have not been able to find all the things I need.
Due to my current financial situation (and for a bit of fun) I am going to try to build a pub/shop bike from scratch, for as little money as possible (free if I can). I have a nice bike for commuting and Long rides that i keep in my house or in my office but I hate locking it on the street when out and about.
I am all over E-Bay, Craig, and Gumtree for bargains. But if anyone has or knows of anything that is road worthy and you were just going to throw it out or trade for a 6 pack let me know
I am going to have a ride around some metal scrap yards and rubbish dumps over the next couple of weeks see what I can find. I know or Bermondsy and Angel. I live in Holloway but anywhere within London is easy to get to, any info on scrap yards or anything that may help will be welcome.
Basic specs are:
A steel road frame 55cm-60cm
Flip-Flop rear wheel (700c)
The rest is what ever I can find.
