Jobst vs. Zinn vs. Musson

Fancy getting a wheelbuild related book.

I know Jobst is probably the most old school respected dude, but theres also zinn and this new chap called roger musson who has the wheelpro website. Musson claims he provides instructions for making many wheelbuilding tools, this attracts me. But I generally drawn towards old school classic stuff, and I beleive Jobst is the respected reference material?

any reviews out there?

Do you think it's possible to learn how to build wheels from a book? If so, I might actually look into buying a book and giving it a go....

I used Roger Musson's book to build my first wheels - a rear flip-flop one and normal front one. It was reasonably simple, especially since there was no dishing.
Also, if you don't want to pay and don't mind the older version, there are a few torrents of it around. Then again, the book's only £9

I found sheldon to be really clear and concise, it was a bit more basic than the ebook I had but then again I didn't really need 50 pages about 'tools for the job' and 'types of wheels/spokes/rims/nipples/etc etc'.

Roger Musson has been around since the mid 90s, building wheels for the Intense Kawasaki team I think.

Guru. And he doesn't go along the route of "you need 48 spoke plain gauge wheels" for touring,
with his method, even cheap wheels can be built strongly, with the right technique and spokes.

I found Schraner's book next to useless and with some unsupported/unsupportable stuff in it. Roger Musson's book is very useful and sane, I think. The Jobst book is good as well.

go here dl the pdfs, have a quick read through the 3 books, then go buy rogers because its good, im just in the process of buying stuff to make the stand! should be fun

anyone should be able to use sheldon's instructions for their first wheelset, then use their brain for anything else after that

The Musson book is defineately the best clear and concise you can build directly from the instruction in the book.
