  • What defensive/self protection measures are legal here? I'm a Yank, so it's an honest question. I carry my D-lock on my waist but I'm not entirely confident in using that against a group and I'm more interested in something for my wife to carry when she rides.

First rule of self-defence is get the hell out of the situation if you can.
If you start waving stuff around you'll aggravate the situation.
Saying that, if they're already laying into you I'd d-lock as many of them as I could.

  • use any dropped item as a weapon.
see 1.00minute in from this Karate kid 2 clip :D

    YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

  • One user of the London Fixed-gear and Single-speed forum wrote: "This is terrible, but is all too common. Let’s hope he gets well soon."

Another said: "After what I have read of similar attacks, I am more vigilant of passing groups of youths."

I just feel let down they never used my initial "cunts" quote

  • ask ben631 (rozzer [is that offensive? we will have to wait..])

i think it boils down to what is reasonable.

  • Lets not let this thread get irreverent.

  • If you are cycling alone at night then these things can happen.

or if you are walking alone, he should be trying to avoid making statements about cycling that are nothing to do with form of transport, it's annoying enough when journalists say stupid things like that, but him...

Do we have to start bringing our own mates and do a route of dropping each other off? :/

In seriousness my girlfriend suggest this a while ago, I'd say it's unfeasible except at rush hours and on artereal bike routes... but maybe if enough people organised them selves into it, its doable.

At least from forum events it should be possible. After all it's just like bike tubes only latter at night?

Most of you don't live my way, so it's not that possible. And I highly doubt the Ealing people want to detour!

  • note to self don't use D-locks on other peoples heads.....anywhere else is cool ok ;-)

  • Carry a phone book too.

  • ewell, stoneleigh etc is rough as guts in my mind. Last three years i have spent a lot of time moving around that area in summer and see a lot of people getting loose..

the youth are outta control.... the oldies are outta control, jeez the tooting and hassle we get just riding to and from trails, people there need to get into ondon more and see what hassles there are on the road..... i got run into the gutter by some prick, a plumber on his way hom e from work, blatant....

other friends also experience shit due to pub's and offies being close to train statsions there....

lots of bad stories, for me this one stands out.... i got harassed by a 14/15 yr old girl one time on the train station, hitting me with an empty spirit bottle and being a racist bitch, on this went for 15min, finally i had to do soemthing and i pushed her to the floor, her friends decided it was time to help her out.... lots to that story but it was outta control and that was a teenage girl.... and thats me and 5 other guys in their 20's you know...

  • Did you finish her JD? No wonder she was pissed off..

  • For real. I'm confused.... There seems to be zero lack of respect for anything these days...But on the 'street' it's apparently ALL about 'respect'.....twats! What's that all about??? YOOFS! be wary!!!
    don't trust em!!

  • 1) Do you think the serious head injuries would have been mitigated had he been wearing a helmet?
    2) LFGSS quoted with no swearing - a sad day for the forum.

Hate hearing about this kind of thing, fucking pathetic on that girl's behalf.

She sounds like the type of person I would find great pleasure in fully throwing up in their face. Sweetcorn 'n all.

  • turns out max some the boys from trails new her, and i got the run down of her life, very sad, but she would have ended up in a gutter later that night, friends nowhere to be seen, they were taking pleasure in her actions, it made me feel bad.... get to know y kids friends people, since how did that become out of social norms...

  • I know that area really well, I've been staring at this not knowing what to say, poor guy, little fuckers, I hope they're caught quickly, idiots like that are probably boasting, it may just be down to somebody being able to contact the rozzers with what they've heard....

BTB, what nice part of Tollie?

    Erm....

Just round the Surbiton police station area. Officially that is still Tollie. But, yeah, Broadway is a dump. Won't defend it anymore. Hehehe.

  • My method of self defense is to try and sleep with whoever is trying to attack me. This cause most people to run a mile.

  • I linked to it - see my post further up thread...

heal up Felipe David. There's another thread on here in re: 16 vs 1. Stripping paint from a bike thread or summat...??

  • yes, fox, thats me. Just getting so fucked off with these people. Police say that if they get them, they will be back out on the streets again soon. I'm almost tempted to try and kill the next cunt who does this to me again. It has all made me so pissed off I don't think I'd have even the remotest remorse and feeling toward it, which is just not me.

  • Fucking hell - sometimes I despair of living in the UK. BBC news today...

"A World War II veteran suffered severe facial injuries when he was robbed a few hours after scattering his late wife's ashes."

  • Except that a scumbag who is willing to beat you up to steal something is likely to be much better in a fight than you are, will take that D lock off you and beat you to a bloody pulp with it. Same thing with a knife, TBH, but kids don't seem to understand that.

    I'll take my chances...

  • When it Comes to the crunch you gotta do what you gotta do, D-Lock inclusive- wearing a helmet is an advantage, also, we're cyclists- kick the shit out of them! I'm generally a pacifist (I hate that word though), but within our legs is an unusual power that I'm sure could put some little skeezer in his/her place...

Best to avoid the whole thing though...

  • best wishes to Filipe...hope he can ID the fuckers

  • I'd be comfortable with running the risk of killing someone who was trying to do me significant harm or take my shit. Seriously. You can't be ethical to someone who has already decided that they're not going to act ethically to you. Respect is a two-way street.

Sun Tsu said 'all warfare is based on deception'. Win however you can imo.
