    Looks like youve sorted it mostly now, but the general rule of thumb is to put the chain on the two largest sprockets (front & rear) then shorten the chain as much as possible. The rear mech should still have a bit of spring in it in this position. Your components are well used so some weakening of the springs is to be expected.
