I know you managed to get the pedal off but one way to get it off for future reference is to remove the pedal body and I use two door handle spindles on the flat sides of the remaining pedal spindle when i put it in the jaws of a vice and use the carank for better purchase than using a spanner and easier to hit with a mallet too if it comes to a little gentle persuasion, if your pedal only has an allen key on it then it does leave you a bit stuffed.
