Chain reaction wheel build

  • Not buying or selling but it's general bike commerce reltaed so thought it'd be best here:

Any idea how long they take - ordered two wheels yesterday and just realised that nowhere during the whole bit does it say how long they take to build them. They're custom wheels too, not the off the peg ones - anyone got any experience?

  • so... a follow up... got the wheels today and one of thr rims is fucked... has a big gouge on it. I rang them up to let them know and my options are to return it - forking out for postage which they later (within 28 days) refund, they will then rebuild the wheel. However, they dont have the rim in stock or an estimated delivery time for when it will be. I suggested that they replace both rims but that will cost me a £30 charge as there's nothing wrong with one of the wheels - even though I obviously ordered them as a matching pair.

I've now suggested they simple refund me for the rims and I will get it sorted at my own leisure elesewhere. The bloke on the phone was very helpful but I'm really unimpressed by the quality of the wheels and returns policy.

    BEWARE

  • I returned a pedal rebuild kit to Chain Reaction a couple of months ago (because the pedal was too fucked to rebuild), although it said 28days for a refund, this was the max time possible and in fact it was done within 48hrs. I kept the sticker that came with the rebuild kit too. Cheeky!

  • pfff, im not a fan of CRC, they have cheap stuff but i would never trust them on something over a hundred, chances are they will complain if it brakes and not refund P&P to return, small stuff is ok, im a ribble and parker international fan! the latter being my absolute favourite! best customer service from a large corporation

  • Bought a wheelset from them a year or so ago (for my mtb, Hope Pro 2/mavic xm819. Not cheap) And they were great, correctly tensioned and true. Pity you had a bad experience as they can be fine.

  • yeah - the mistake isnt so much an issue, these things happen - but they're making returning them so difficult and penalizing me for simply wanting a matching pair. I'm more annoyed as the evening progresses...

  • I buy lots of stuff online (bike related and not) but I kind of think your better off paying a bit more and buying custom items from a shop so that you (usually) don't have so many hoops to jump through if something goes wrong.
    Just my 2p...

  • yeah, i do normally - i just thpought i'd trsy get a wheelbuild done online - my own fault for not giving the dorra to my lbs... ho hum...
