I have a bench vice you are welcome to use in Stokey

Had to do this myself a couple of weeks ago.
After trying WD40 and all kinds of shite, in the end I had to resort to Spider removal -> Vice -> Big fuckoff spanner

Thanks Rik, but I don't travel North

I don't have a vice at home so may have to take down the LBS and look a fanny :-(

Heat up the crank. The alloy will expand faster than the steel pedal spindle so will be easier to undo.
Fixed.

was just about to post this. but i think crack will hinder your performance. heat the crank instead.

If right-hand crank, crank at about 2 o'clock position, spanner at about 10 o'clock position.
If left-hand crank, crank at about 10 o'clock position, spanner at about 2 o'clock position.Add big leverage e.g. scaffold pole. Push lever down.

What, so just hold it over the gas cooker for a few mins? Will this not tarnish the crank?

Heat up the crack.
Inhale.
Stop caring about the pedal. -

If only it was that easy. It's the non drive side crank, the drive side came off piss easy - I put all 16stone of my weight over it too

just over the gas cooker near the spindle of the crank and any tarnish can be wiped off afterward. just make sure the pedal doesn't have any plastic bits that could melt.

I can see a 'stage of pics' opportunity coming up here....

Also, IF the alloy expands will this not fuck up the thread for future use?
-
• #20
it will shrink back as it cools.
-
• #21
no. they will go back once cooled.

Quite possibly, depends on how much you want to get the pedal out. The carbon deposits you'll get will come off with elbow grease, and you'll probably stand less chance of buggering it up permanently.
SAFETY ANOUNCEMENT, heat up your crack at own risk!!

Heat crank/spindle for 2 mins
Put back on BB and tighten
Spanner on spindle
Push like fuckThat'll work right?

Fingers crossed. Hopefully the heating and the effect of different expansion rates of the two metals will crack the bond between the two parts. Don't forget your oven gloves...
As the title says....
Can't for the life of me get the cunt off! Been trying for 2 days, put WD40 on it over night, tried again this morning, no joy.....probably need to put a long bit of piping on the spanner but not had chance yet. Any tips?
HTFU is not an option
