  • Hello

Am thinking of getting out into Surrey Hills Saturday morning. Start time around 8am from Kew/Chiswick, so possibly meet around 8.15 at the cafe in Richmond Park.

At present its not pre determined but this is just to see who else might be interested. Gears and lycra are strongly suggested as requirements.

The idea is to be back form mid day, this is a fastish blast to clear the hangover from Friday but you should be able to rest up before the Bridges ride in the evening.

The understanding is that you should be able to maintain a decent average pace - 17 mph or more including the hills. Bike should be reasonably maintained etc etc.

  • I'm out this weekend sweetie darling.

  • Jim is lurking though so he should sign up, less I'll call him a bitch.

  • I'll touch you in your sleep.

  • Would be up for it if there if there is any chance to push the start by one hour making it 9:00 RP

  • If someone - let's say Texas, for the sake of argument - keeps suggesting that the ride splits into 2 differently paced groups, don't reject the idea in some nebulous attempt to be inclusive. It's more inclusive to have 2 groups.

Oh, I can't make it, BTW.

  • If I'm feeling better on Friday may consider this. But at the mo I dont think I could even make it to RP with out showing what I had for breakfast.

  • Claus - just pedal faster and catch us up

Seriously there are a few people who have other comittments that day.

I am willing to split a group, though would prefer this if we have 10 or more people, so there are at least 2 decent sized groups. The other issue is the navigation and who has either local knowlege or sat nav.

    Object, there are no excuses.

If anyone is really struggling (fucking east living hipsters) you may be able to blag a bed at mine on Friday night.

  • and Jim, get well soon, i gather you have been off sick for the past few days

  • what sort of mileage we looking at sugar tits?

  • Object, there are no excuses.
I haven't bought a new chain yet and I'm not riding that bike until I have. Sorry dude.

  • 70-80 miles

em, do you need me to buy you a chain until next payday?

  • and rob, can i sugar your tits?

  • shame it's not a Saturday afternoon ride.

  • i'm out then..... i've got freinds staying over saturday night, they will be turning up at my place at about 12:30.

shame, i haven't been out on the road bike in ages. would have been nice.

i may see you at the cafe anyway, a i'll prob get 3 or 4 laps in at Richmnond instead.

and you can sugar my tits anytime...... £20 each.

Cheers for the offer dude but I have another commitment this weekend.

    Check your PM.

  • Sorry cant do this saturday. Have fun!

  • may be interested, depending on where i end up on friday night in reltation to my road bike.

will let you know by friday.

  • How big/steep are these surrey hills (forgive my foreigner ignorance).
My options are fixed or the MTB

Same question. Just did devils dyke route to Brighton last weekend, how does it compare?
I don't have gears but can keep up 16-17mph pace if the hills aren't too bad.

  • may one tag along? think i can maintain, remeber trailing yo up ditchling a few weeks ago.

riding gears for the 1st time in about 10 years so will probably be better off fixed but am reeeelly amped to get out on the road with new bike.
have lycra, not ashamed to wear it.

  • Please understand that the aim will not be to drop people, we will support each other . However you must be able to follow a wheel and ride with a pack. This is why unless you are an experienced fixed rider you may find holding a wheel v tricky

  • i can hold a line and ride in a pack. used to ride road bikes when i was 16/17, even did a couple of short races. not likely to cross up wheels with the guy in front or swerve across the guys behind me. pretty steady on rollers lately too.
more concerned with the fact that i've "forgotten" how to use gears and the unfamiliar cadences and resistance may tire me out.
    should be fine.

  • unfortunately, can't make this ride as would love to do it again after last week's ride which was really good fun and a proper workout. hope it goes well and if there are more Saturday rides in future I would be well up for it. On the upside for you guys it means you don't have to deal with my dodgy signalling this weekend!

  • Matt I have barely learned how to use gears, welcome aboard
