Making spd shoes...

I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on making a pair of cycle shoes to fit spd's?

i have a great pair on simple nike running shoes and i would love it if they could be converted into spd shoes....

advice....

or does anyone have a pair of size 8 or 9 cycle shoes they want to sell?

Buy cycle shoes - rip out the hard plastic insole/insert that the cleat screws into - remove insole from your running shoes (and maybe some of the inside of the sole if possible) - cut a hole for the cleats in the sole of your running shoes - place your hard plastic insole/insert into your running shoes - put insole back over the hard plastic insole/insert.

It's really basic stuff - you may have to adapt stuff depending on numerous unknowns.

I used 'em with SPD-SLs and they were great. They were a bit slidey with Time ATACs though. If you get those Look pedals marxist fixie then these are the shoes you need. The 3 holed variety.

the uppers of most running shoes would not be able to handle to solidness of a spd sole.

Any I definetley cant think of any manner you could bond them strong enough.

You would probably have to get some super stiff New Balance Mud Hill running shoes for it to be at all pheasible, then is would still be shit.

You can probably pick up a pair of dead/dieing shoes for next to nothing on ebay, the shoe size does not have to be perfect as you can cut down the hard plastic insert to size.

They are bonded by cycle shoe manufacturers all the time ! The glue exists ! ;P

You can use a two part expoxy from somewhere like Maplins.

When I made mine I just inserted the hard plastic insert into the shoe, I didn't bond it to the inside of the sole, I didn't see any real reason, it had nowhere to go, worked fine.

I might try and make a custom moulded insert out of a thermoplastic when I get the chance, it would be cheaper than finding new or secondhand shoes to take apart.

I will let you know how it goes.
