Actually it's Eddie Merc and he is a cycleist according to him.

  • im watching a few auctions and cant fingure out how people are able to bid last second, my internet takes about 10s to refresh a webpage (using home internet in london), and i can only manage to get bids in within the last 5s of auction ending... am i missing something or is it a simple case of just timing the bid right? also how much is it safe to bid at the last second?

  • as much as you are prepared to pay.

  • Good looking Aende lo pro - £150, 2 days left.

went for £230, a good deal for someone though unlikely to be a cheap fixed conversion. This was listed with the right title but everything else pretty vague - but the seller left his phone number so answers were easy to obtain with the right questions. This was due to the seller not knowing much about bikes and having been given the bike by a relative.

The good deals are still there to be found - you can't sniff at a little-used 653 Aende lo pro with 600 components for £230.

There are a load of utter cunts who use eBay 'sniper' software.

Basically you put in the max amount you want to bid and the software automatically sends in a bid just above the current max (but within your limit) in the last couple of milliseconds.

eBay have started cottoning on to this and are disabling accounts where they suspect it's being done through a sniper.

  • i was watching that low-pro bike aswell haha

the one i wanted was colnago frame but someone did a last second bid

Why are they utter cunts? The software is available to anyone who's prepared to pay for it, and most of the sniper sites give you free bids to lure you in, so it's pretty fucking straightforward to use.

  • They are utter cunts because I didn't find out about about it till after them.

    Next question.

  • the good majoriy of people using these snipers, must have some deep pockets as the only way to ensure winning the auction is placing a high bid.

i am not sure about you, but i am still looking for those good deals

    Fair comment then. :-)

Sorry, but if you're looking for bargains on ebay prepare to be disappointed unless the description is really bad (and even then there is software available which will find mis-spelt descriptions). Bargains are to be had at bike jumbles not on ebay, there are too many people looking for that elusive good deal on track/fixed bikes and components.

  • well said andy p- it is ever becoming harder to get bargains on ebay, too may people searching/bidding
