I have some of the pictured Shimano V-Brake levers working with some old Weinmann type 500's.
They stop fine? I just have them adjusted nice and close to the rim. You don't need to squeeze excessively hard either.
Mind you, I do want to change levers and brakes but to lazy/broke at the moment.
